Brother needs new engine in his Citreon under warranty due to oil leak at alternator!

Had to remove engine to find/check it

Car 10 months old

Is engine change recorded anywhere? or would it devalue car?

Personally I dont think it is an issue but brother is wee bit concerned

Any thoughts comments

I wouldn't have an issue with this but my only caveat, from personal experience, is that once the dealer has done the work, get a trusted indie to give it a once over.

I had my clutch replaced under warranty by dealer, car was only ever serviced by dealer, and a while after the gearbox cracked. Turned out they had busted the thread in the casing and rather than carry out the recommended fix, they just bodged it with a nut and bolt and this had eventually given way.

Its one of the reasons why I wouldn't be tied into a new car and dealer servicing ever again.

ETA that's sound advice from Craigie, just for peace of mind.
I'd not have thought it'd affect the resale, it's not like it's lack of maintenance that's the cause.

I guess it might be that the alternator bracket bolts onto the block and one of the bolts blocks off an oil gallery, but the bolt became loose, and the oil escaped.

That's just a guess though. It might just be 'dealer speak'.
