Ford Dagenham. The plant opened in 1931 and has produced 10,980,368 cars and over 37,000,000 engines in its history. Vehicle assembly ceased at the plant in 2002 Employment at the plant peaked at around 40,000 workers in 1953, and it currently employs around 4,000 people. In 1962, Ford opened a factory at Halewood near Liverpool to make the Anglia. This closed as a Ford plant when the last Escort came off the production line in 2000 and was then converted to make the Jaguar X-Type in 2001.
Halewood was originally opened by Ford Motor Company on 2 October 1963, to build the then small-saloon sized Ford Anglia. Turned to Jaguar production in 2001 The Cork plant closed in 1985. The Langley plant closed in 1997.
In the 1970s The Ford Motor Company factory at Aveley housed Ford's Advanced Vehicle Operations which built cars such as the RS1600. The plant was wound down gradually from the late 90's but closed entirely in 2004, when the last 150 jobs were lost.
Ford of Britain operates four major manufacturing sites in the UK, in Bridgend (petrol engine production), Dagenham (diesel engine production), Halewood (transmissions) and Southampton (commercial vehicle assembly). It also operates a large research and development facility in Dunton, Essex which employs over 3,000 engineers.
Ford Europe is still has its registered UK office in Brentwood, Essex. The original UK headquarters was in Brentwood at Warley, but this was transferred to Germany in ????, and is now a Finance office. Chassis engineering was transferred to Germany from Dunton in 1995. It was strongly rumored at that time that the whole Dunton research centers might close.
Ford tractors at Basildon was combined with New Holland in 1988. In 1991 Ford sold its tractor division to Fiat.
In 1986, Ford sold its European truck operations to the Italian Iveco group and subsequent vehicles have been badged Iveco Ford. Its Langley, Slough, plant closed in October 1997.
Probably forgot some. Probably forgot some. The point is, the UK lost a lot of FORD manufacturing in the past 20 years or so.

Europe still has an over production problem which is now especially acute given the state of the economy. It was reported on the TV news a few weeks ago that every manufacturer with multiple factories in Europe would each have to shut down at least one factory to bring production in line with demand.
Sadly I can see more of these reports coming out over the short/medium term.
