Mitsubishi Grandis engine management light on!

Can anyone please help? I've got a 2.4l petrol Grandis 2005 model & I think the engine management light has come on because of the state of the air filter, so I have serviced the car but the light is staying on as I assumed it would.
Is there any way I can find out why it came on & any way I can reset it so it will go back to normal operation, providing I have rectified the fault. I'm both a long way from my nearest Mitsubishi dealer & dont want to pay through the nose for a simple task.
It's possible that an oxygen sensor or the like may have failed & I know from experience that the Mistubishi part will be several times the price of a pattern part.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
