Peugeot 3008. Why not?

Need to change my 52 plate Jag S type, I've had it five trouble free years and though I think it's a brilliant car, I'm starting to develop some arthritis and have trouble getting in and out of low cars so am thinking of the 3008.

Not had a drive in one yet but sat in one in main dealer and it seems very nicely appointed and I'm pleasantly surprised and impressed. I tow a fairly large caravan so would be looking at the 2 litre one, probably a couple of years old and c£15k. I'd be buying diesel auto.

Anyone any views or suggestions?

I think thats what my Brother In Law drives, it's very practical, good for dogs and familes.

Unfortunatley every time I get in it it makes me feel car sick. I think its the ride or the rear seats, I'm not sure.

It looks hideous, which I think should be reason enough to walk away personally!

It isn't actually a bad car per-se but residual values will be very poor so it's not the kind of car to buy and expect to sell on again in a couple of years, but if you like it and find it comfortable then it's a reasonably acceptable choice.

Mrs has got one, 1.6 Sport petrol . Its now on 50k with no issues other than the worse locking wheel nuts ever. I drive it quite often including a recent 1500 mile jaunt to France. Wing mirror design generates alot of noise at motorway speeds. Very clever load space and split tailgate. Returns 40 mpg all day long.

If you are thinking of the auto then make sure you test drive first.
Father in Law has had two, I have driven both, they have the worst auto box I have ever experienced.

The lag on up changes is truly dreadful.

Isn't it an automated single clutch manual like on the C4 Grand Picasso? If so it's utterly dire and should be avoided like an HIV positive Zimbabwean prostitute.

There's got to be better 4x4s out there for £15k.

I agree with the others, the 3008 is hideous and recent experience has shown they're almost impossible to sell in the trade, so depreciation will be astronomical.

A £15k freelander would probably be a much better bet.

So what for £15k? Defo not a landy or a freelander. Kia Sportage is too small engine.

VW Tiguan? 140 CR TDI DSG in Match trim would be my pick.

VW Tiguan is a good shout but you'll pay a bit more for it. The Sportage is actually the best option, depending on the towing weight you need that missing 300cc shouldn't be a concern as they drive well and don't feel underpowered.

BMW X1 is another good option, basically a jacked up (and cheaper) E90 Touring but with AWD if you want it as well, that would be my choice but the Kia will be newer for the same money.

Agree S-Max is ALOT better ! also if your looking to get anywhere fast dont get the 3008, i have been insured in one and its very slow (1.6) but i suppose if its for family ETC you wont be going fast....

As I said in the original post, arthritis means I'm finding it tricky getting in and out of normal cars so just want something higher. I don't need a 4x4 or a people carrier it's just they're the taller cars that you can step inot rather than drop down into. For you fitter blokes have a think about when age and illness catches up with you as it will. Re how many seats we need, it's normally only me and SWMBO and occasionally 6 and 4 yr old grandkids. Last time we had four adults in the car was to go a funeral three years ago and if I need to take four then I'll use SWMBO's '10 Civic. Oh and those who say this is PH etc, I'll still keep and struggle with my kit car but only use it on "good days".

Let me tell you, getting old is NO fun at all.

Had a look at a SMax and I quite like it buy my bro's got one and it seems to spend as much time in the garage as a TVR. He's not overly impressed with it.

The Sportage i quite like but I do think the missing 300cc could be a problem when towing. Anyone tow with one and got any real experience?

Not thought about the Tiggy, X1 or cashcow, will give them a closer look.
