Running your snotter- What's it cost this month OCT 2012?

I run a snotter on the basis that its cheaper than paying £xxx a month on a lease plan for a new car..
I'm wondering how it compares the PH snotters, So I've tracked the costs for this month (exc Tax/Insurance)- the results are below
this is the offender, in all its 2.8m52 manual glory (1x silver wheel FTW!). It has single point LPG (with a leak at the vapourisor- new one needed!)
So far this month 1st to 24th, it has done the following:
1891 miles
using 75.32 Gallons (of LPG and Petrol- more petrol than usual due to LPG leak)
25.1mpg average
best of 38.4mpg on petrol
worst of 19.5mpg on LPG
Total Cost £315.09 (£4.18/Gal, £0.92/L)
Per mile £0.166
Now I've been paid, I'll get a new vap (£85) bringing the cost per mile to £0.212
So what does yours cost then?
Hopefully mine will be cheaper next month, with the new vap allowing better LPG MPG!

241.5 litres of diesel
53.4 mpg average
£307.55 in diesel
£0 other direct costs (ie repairs, servicing etc)
Cost per mile is 10.8p, although that is cheating slightly as I drove over to Germany at the start of the month and hence filled up with cheaper diesel than in the UK.
I've thought about replacing the car many times for something quicker/nicer, but it's so dependable, owes me nothing, and costs so little to run that I'll just keep it and run it until it finally dies

Top work- I'm hoping to get my 328 down to about £0.14/mile once the new vap is fitted- should see about 23-24mpg on LPG after that.
The alarming thing is that this month's fuel is circa 1/2 the purchase cost of the car!

I purchased a 9-3 on the 5/6th September for £600, years ticket and taxed until the end of Dec. Done approx 3750 miles so far at average of 32mpg = £742 in fuel
apart from a new windscreen and wipers at £78.99 all in, it's had nothing else. It's going in on Friday to get the front suspension checked and I'm ordering a set of winter tyres for it in the next week, so that'll bump the price up a bit. Oh and I bought an Abbott steering rack clamp and brace (£70) and a rear anti-roll bar (£15). It's been flawless so far and has had a fair bit of abuse lugging stuff about!

Pretty much the same here - I paid £650 for the car around 3 years / 62k miles ago.That figure pales into insignificance when you think that fuel expendature during the same period has been probably circa £6800 assuming 62k miles at a guessed average of 11p/mile. When you put it like that, putting ten times the purchase price of the car worth of fuel through does sound somewhat bonkers!

Cheers - 90s Saabs are real bargains. Nearly bought a 9-3 a few years back and might consider one again now that they are in shed territory, although I do like the venerable 9000. Mine was £750 with no synchro on 2nd, but I didn't even notice after a day or two! In a year the only faults have been an ABS sensor and oil pressure sender. Eats up mileages with aplomb. Don't know how many miles i've covered this month, but it's not cost me anything but £25 in fuel.
It's a 2003 1.6 zetec, Focus estate that i bought in June for £500 with 9 months tax and MOT. I only use it for work and tip runs and done about 700 miles in it so far.
This is the first snotter i've bought and loving it so far.

Nicecupoftea- that 9000 looks a lovely old thing! Going by the wheels does it pack 2.3L of goodness?
Stevokinevo- Had me a 9-3 2.0LPT on an X..Bought for £450 as I needed a runner. Plenty of kit, and fairly reliable- dull as ditchwater to drive though, and not very rapid..Sounds like you have made decent upgrades to it

Smartypants- I’ve oft thought of getting a PD TDI as a smoker- I like the reliability of the lump, and was available in some decent cars- e.g. Fabia VRS and Octavia estate. Top work on the running costs too!
Tylerama-Top work- them original Yaris can be fun to chuck about (in a small FWD kinda way) plus you can pretend it’s a spaceship with the digital speedo
Xtriple129- WUSS! Get it out the garage- cars are for the driving! Must admit, sorely tempted with the old W126 500SELs that keep on popping up on barge threads..
Daveh23- I’d have a 106 rallye! Not bad mpg if you drove it like you stole it- Wish I did 500 miles a month( or more likely, the current 2k per month, but only driving good A/B roads with no traffic!)
Powerandtorque- my venerable e34 535i just about doubles in value at £107 a fill-I know what you mean. Scarily though, I did some calcs a while back re going to Nottingham to see a mate. The cost for 3 people in the car (a 318iS e36) inc the tax/wear/servicing etc over 3 days was £118ish- a return train ticket was £118 PER PERSON.
FreeLitres- Good point, well made! However, I’d rather own/service my own car- without any tie to the company.
Certainly your £65 a month looks a bargain.

Purchase £375 (using figure of £375 as I've had it 6 months-I’ll depreciate it totally (£750) in 1 year)
Tax £121 (6 Months)
MOT/Tyres/service £160
LPG VAP £85
=£741
Or £123.5 PCM over the 6 months.
The additional £58.5 PCM is worth it for the 6pot, and RWD though
Reckon with no major costs (Bar Tax)should be circa £100 PCM after 12 months

2.3 full pressure turbo - 200bhp. It's an Anniversary run-out model so came with a lot of kit, but they had 15" multispoke wheels. Bought a cheap set of 16" SuperAeros as they look so much better and the tyre choice is better too!NiceCupOfTea said:

I'd have killed for a 2.3 Carlsson when I were a pup..They do seem a cracking drive- much more so than the 9-3. Reckon the real winner would be a 96 though!

Somebody is paying the depreciation on it though, even if it isn't you. Have you factored in the extra salary you'd get (hopefully) if you didn't take the company car option? Annual costs to me:

Costs for my 306 non turbo diesel this month (ignoring the extortionate sum that DVLA want for 12 months duty).
Approx 600 miles- 10 quids worth of diesel and some filtered waste oil I got in exchange for a 5 quid bottle of Brouilly.
I'm thinking about lashing out on a set of steelies with new Nokian winter tyres for 230 quid next month so costs could skyrocket.........
Oddly enough 230 quid isn't much more than 2 tanks of fuel for my other car which will do about 500 miles on them..........

The rack clamp and brace and rear ARB are essential on an NG900/9-3, but yes they handle adequately at best, not a patch on the c900 or 9000. They can be made to go a lot faster for less than £120! APC valve and piping and a remap takes them from 154bhp to 225bhp.Mine averaged 40.4mpg over 11,000
Some sort of diesel is on the cards as I have a new job that is circa 25k miles pa just commuting, Saab will go to the Wife to be abused for the rest of it's days!
