Traffic light GP fails

Just thought I'd share the experience I had in Uxbridge this evening.
Pulled up at a set of lights in the inside lane and was soon joined by an alfa guiletta with the windows down, blasting out music. I look over and see two black guys pointing at me, revving their engine and laughing. Being a skinny, weedy white guy who looks about 12, and noticing the distinctly poverty spec appearance of their car, I reckoned I had nothing to lose and decided to take them up on their kind offer of a quick 0-40 sprint.
I put the car in gear and waited for the lights to change, lights turned green and.... they stalled it. Music stopped, car cut out and it took them a good 20 seconds to get it restarted, with much blasting of horns and dodgy overtakes from the people behind them. At another set of lights a bit further on, they pulled alongside again, music much quieter this time and they pretended I wasn't there. Really wish I'd had a camera running......
So, anyone else had people try racing them and fail spectacularly? Or are you all much too mature to engage in such childish antics?

Yeah, My father was in the car with me, but I couldn't help myself, people like that need their spirits dampening a little 
But, I was once the guy who stalled...fully laden car, 5 passengers and camping gear, mate pulled along side me, revved the engine, dumped the clutch, and stalled :'(

It was very calm of you to sit there, in the inside lane, with cars blasting their horns and doing dodgy overtakes, and watch this for 20 seconds.mat777 said:

Anybody else get the feeling that OP is a skinny insecure white guy that feels intimidated by black guys who play loud music and fabricated an imaginary story within his own mind before transferring it to the internet that consists of a scenario where he gets to momentarily relieve himself from his own insecurities by playing out a scene within his mind where the people who make him feel insecure do something embarrassing enabling him to make a quick get away?
Obvious made up story is obvious tbh.
Sounds like you are just very insecure and like to create scenarios in your mind where the things that make you insecure end up failing and you get away.
Well unless there's anyone on this site who happened to be on Uxbridge road at about 7PM this evening, then I guess your response is just as believable as my account. All I can say is that although I may be skinny and indeed white, I'm not insecure, and if I was I could have made up a much more exciting story than two guys stalling a car. I wasn't looking for any fame or admiration, after all I didn't "beat" anyone, I simply drove away from a set of lights without stalling (which is something I'd guess most of us can manage). I just found it amusing and wondered if anyone else had found themselves in a similar situation: some replies have been funny (especially the video of the two corvette's) and that's all I was really looking for.Obvious made up story is obvious tbh.

Sorry, I probably wasn't clear, here's a slightly more detailed account:They remained stationary for 20 seconds (I used my rear view mirror to observe them). The horn blasting was observed for around 5 seconds (as I got further away I couldn't hear the horns anymore) and the dodgy overtakes continued for the whole 20 seconds, with each consecutive car stopping, wondering what had happened, then swerving around them into the "turn right" lane, hence my use of the words "dodgy overtake". I remained in the inside lane at around 20MPH between the two sets of lights, with other cars overtaking me on my right.

I really like the ones who have crap brakes and slipping clutches. You know, the ones who can't keep still and creep incessantly forwards ending up nearly a full car length past the line sometimes before the lights change. Without fail, they never anticipate the change and are never ready for it. And why are always in the outside lane? I've seen some get passed on the inside by 3 or 4 cars before getting up to speed.
If you're going to creep impatiently like a slowly descending testicle, then at least be ready to go.

My first car was a 1974 1200cc Beetle. At the time (early 90's) all the rage for the boy racers was the RS turbo and XR3 etc.
They would come next to me at the lights giving it the beans. It would always make me smile inside at how silly they must look in their new(ish) cars wanting a race with a £250 1200cc Beetle, like I would even ever have a chance if I tried
