DAB head unit with REAR iPod control socket
Discussion
Not a head unit as such but the Pure Highway 300Di comes recommended. I've fitted one in mine, it connects to an auxiliary port on the existing head unit (front or rear) and has a USB input which you can use anywhere by plugging an extension lead in so you can connect an iPhone or a USB stick, plus it also has another auxiliary input too.

I'm wary of the Parrot. It seems like a pretty complex solution to my problem and relies heavily on wireless reception/interfaces. Also from the reviews I've read, it takes a while to boot up from cold. I was compelled at first but I think these sorts of devices would need to get a bit more user-friendly before I would consider one.
There is one alpine HU which has Rear USB, DAB and iPhone compatibility and now this is the firm front-runner in my search.
Thanks to both of you!
ETA: Just realised that Stefan suggested a 'Pure' device. Unfortunately I ruled this one out early doors because my car still has it's original Sony tape deck and 10CD changer which is the best part of 20 years old. It's not a great bit of kit any more. Adding another device to it seems like an untidy sticking plaster solution because I'd still have 1990s sound quality and compatibility.
