Disposing of tyres

Well, it seems that nobody is very keen on you disposing of unwanted tyres.

My local authority (Kent CC) offer a limited number of venues where you can get rid of these. The nearest is probably 15 miles away, they charge £5 a visit (if disposing of tyres) and, here's the sucker punch, you can only dispose of 2 tyres per visit.

I've got at least 8 to get rid of....

So that's 4 x 30 mile round trip and 4 x £5 which is probably £50 all in, plus a load of time traipsing back & forth.

I tried some of the local businesses listed as authorised to dispose, but after the third repeat of "ah, no, you need to ring THIS number, not us" I gave up on that as well.

So what does anyone else do? Whilst never condoning it, it really is very little wonder that people dump things by the roadside.

Carting/banger racing circuits may take them?

Not sure where in Kent you are, but I'm pretty sure last time I was there, the tip at J3 of the M25 (Swanley) just had a container where you dump tyres yourself (i.e. you don't have a guy there counting how many tyres you're dumping).

Put them on Gumtree, offering them for free? Local racetrack maybe?

I know people who pop them into skips on building sites or outside houses that are having building work done.

I'm at W Malling, so it's not too far to nip up there. It's not listed on the KCC site - is it a different LA?

This is the one on the A20 just opposite the golf club before you head back down the hill??

Cappo, any sailing / yacht club will have them! the one here on the island is usually asking for them to rest the boats on rather than straight on the ground damanging the hulls.

Whilst I'm on friendly terms with the lads, my local Kwik Fit takes them for £1 each.

I thought this was a standard service but perhaps not.

Our local council tip disposes of them for free, if not then try youre local indi tyre fitter and bung them some beer money?

Move north, at its recycling depot my local council accepts four from a domestic vehicle - which, coincidentally, is the number at the back of my garage I need to get rid of

I mainly leave mine in lay-bys or throw them over a speed camera and set fire to them. HTH.

Most tyre places pay between 50p and £1 to have the tyres disposed, so give one of the places a tenner and I'm sure someone will take 8.
