The Terrano was slow cranking over tonight so I guess this winter may see the end of the battery.... What do I buy? Any tips, advice or experience of what to go for/avoid? Any good makes about you can recommend? Prices seem to be between £70 and £110 so with reasonably little (ish) in it I dont want to buy purely on price. It is regularly stood for 2-3 week periods with no use btw.

Bosch.

Buy from a supplier with quick turnover. You don't want a battery that's been sitting on somebody's shelf for 6 months awaiting sale.

Exide. Don't even think about another brand, expensive, but shove the very biggest and highest capacity you can get in the space and forget about, avoid anything with Varta on it, we have a high turnover of batteries with our plant and vans and the Vartas were ste (more German hyped up crap) the Excides are unburstable and are lasting well.

I'd second Bosch Silver, having had experience of these x3 in the last 10 years.

Yep, I also jumped on a bosch silver and cant fault it, although that was mainly because thats what gsf had in stock. Blagging a bit of a discount and getting a few quid off for giving them my old battery got me about £20 off.

I'd agree with that.
The Exide in my daily driver is now over 11 years old.

The original Yuasa battery in my Civic disappointed me. It failed a few months before the cars 13th birthday.

The highest cca you can get will do as long as it fits in the battery compartment.

Exide seem to be matching bosch silver now? Price check on both seem to be minimal amount more than others which is good.

ECP doing 15% off batteries just now: http://www.eurocarparts.com/car-battery

If you have access to Costco, they sell Bosch batteries.

It's been Costco/Bosch for my battery purchases over the last few years.

Thanks for that. Quality batteries for the same price as standard kwik fit stuff!

Batteries are like tyres - they all look the same but you have no idea what they're made from. So always buy a quality brand even if it costs a bit more.

Oh dear. The Panasonic supplied new with my Prelude failed a couple of years ago after more than 12 years. The Honda dealer said they didn't do Panasonic any more and the replacement was a Varta. Are it's days already numbered?

Another vote for Bosch at euro with a discount code. Got a 10 year old one in my car.

Bosch Silver again here cannot fault them had three in the last decade in different cars always bought from Costco as they are the cheapest plus they give you 5 years warranty so if it fails - which it will not then you get another new one.

Diesel batteries are pricy but always get te biggest battery that will fit then it will never let you down.
