Put 25liters of what i believed to be diesel into my work van T4 Transporter the other week.
Van started to smoke and had problems starting it after. Booked it into my local garage for them to have a look at and they came back saying the tank was contaminated with 'PETROL'.
Im now facing a bill of God knows what to put it right as the fuel pumps dead, and the engine is now sounding prety awefull apparently.
Petrol station manager is saying they've had no problems with any other customers fuel and told me i must have put petrol in myself.

My receipt clearly says Diesel on it and i know i haven't put any other fuel in (keep milage records and receipts for work accounts).

After any advice o what to do now as going to struggle to pay the repair bills that are coming my way!!!

Ask for cctv footage, using the time and date from the receipt.

By the time i'd managed to get the van booked in it was 1 day over two weeks and gusess what? They only keep footage for 14days!!
Not sure if this would help me as my receipt shows me the pump No. and that i put 25litrs of Diesel in.
Would have thought that if i'd have picked up the petrol nozzle by mistake it would have registered as a 'Petrol' purchase. Receipt also shows price of uel per litre and that was correct for diesel!
Peple have said that i need to find other people affected but that got to be a needle in a haystack kind of sitution. Its not the busiest garage in the world so no. of affected people could be low!

How much fuel was in the van before you added the 25L?

Normally, diesel cars filled with petrol just about make it off the forecourt. If that pump had been dispensing petrol then you'd expect loads of people to be affected. Is there a strategically placed local garage that you could ask?

The Van was virtually empty when i put the fuel in. It must have been a mixture of petrol/diesel what ratio'si don't know.
Van fired up o.k at garage but started to smoke on the way home. not knowing a huge amount aboyt cars / engines etc i assumed i'd ran the tank too low and some rubbish from the bottom of the tank was causing it to smoke.
Had trouble starting it the next few times and the smoking got worse. Decided to book it into the garage for a what i assumed would be a new fuel filter and then happy days.
So far fuel pump is dead and needs replacing but its what other damage its done that worries me!
