Saw this a while ago and thought the same. The Brera and 159 have got to be the best looking Alfas for a very long time. Residuals not as horrific as previous models too, although still very good value 2/3 years old but compared to when I bought a 4 year old 156 TS for around £2k they're practically expensive.
Sad, I had a 159 that was riddled with electrical faults but it looked great and felt exotic to own. The Brera was heavy and slow but looked a million dollars. The 147 GTA was a proper hot hatch with a creamy, powerful engine and the GTV still looks great today IMHO. I'm off to buy an old 166.

There was an awesome 166V6 on ebay that went for £1600, it was an '04 plate - looked the dogs! I'd really love one but such a gamble.Ive been lucky with my 3 Alfas, only having a crank sensor go on one of them which I thought was pretty good. Im surprised to hear the electrical issues on the 159, I thought they'd got loads better.
The Fiat takeover of Chrysler has changed some of the future plans and delayed models.
There will be a 166 replacement (finally) based on a platform shared with the next generation 300C.
The 159 replacement is a year away, having been delayed several times.
There will also be a new Spider as a joint venture with Mazda - the next MX5 will be a platform share with Alfa.

I picked up an '04 147 on Thursday, very very cheap ..less than 500 and it was falling to bits, traction control gone, ABS faulty, Elec windows bust, Wind screen wipers motors gone etc,etc,...engine was very sweet though.Ive been lucky with my 3 Alfas, only having a crank sensor go on one of them which I thought was pretty good. My 159 1.9jtdm was the most reliable I've ever owned. Up to 120k miles it only had a steering creak, which could be first signs of a new rack being needed. 45mpg+, nicest interior this side of a Jaguar and a very supple ride.
It was a great motorway car.
However, it was a bit podgy to be considered a true Alfa....but as an Audi alternative it was great. It felt like a Vectra in a beautiful coat (which, with the GM -Fiat JV it kind of was) and they make great secondhand buys. I'd be tempted with a 2.2 estate.
But I hope the Guilia can combine the 159 durability and beauty with 156-esque flair.

My eleven year old 156 V6 Sportwagon, which I bought in 2005, has done 73,000 miles (62,000 of those in my ownership) and given me no major problems. It has no apparent rust, and the electrics still work. The Momo seats look like they are brand new, but some of the plastic trim has come loose. I have just had the cam belts changed and fitted new tyres, and shall probably keep the car until it falls to bits.
I have rented Giuliettas on holiday, and they are quite fun, although a bill rolly in corners.
