Was the M6 shut in both directions this afternoon?

As per the title, really. Someone I know is using it as an excuse for not being somewhere and I'd like to know if it was indeed closed north and south - bound this afternoon. I'd only heard one lane was closed.

I was on the way back to Nantwich from Leek and heard on R2 that the M6 was closed in both directions between 16 and 17, around Sandbach services. When I got underneath J16, it was stopped heading northbound, and flowing southbound. That was around 1.45pm.

According to a few of the chaps in the office, yes. Don't know why though.
