It seems to go up and up each year. Your conviction wont help, and it wouldn't suprise me if they class you as a higer risk due to being a HGV driver. Insurance works oddly like that for some reason.

Dont use comparison websites either, they rip you off.

Try Admiral/elephant/bell. They have all been the cheapest for me for the last 7 years.

Have you given a classic policy a go? They don't accrue NCB usually so they end up a bit cheaper in that respect, and with low mileage it shouldn't be a problem. I'm about your age, and with a DD40 (which is very, very bad) on my licence a Triumph Dolomite 1850 came out under £500.

Have you added two female family members? Even if they will never drive the vehicle. Change options to where the car is parked if you can store the car in that way, i.e. driveway may be cheaper than garage etc. Buy in advance, i.e 2 weeks before to reduce premium.

I suspect this does have a lot to do with postcode as well, see - http://www.carinsuranceexplained.com/car-insurance...

Not sure how the conviction changes, would imagine around 20-30% increase. Saying that my younger brother with 1 year NCB, in cat B postcode got insurance on a KA for £450 year at 19 - so yours does seem rather high.

Another classic post.

If you have full NCB you can transfer it from one car to another that you buy so you are doing something wrong.

The main problem I can see would be less than 1k per year. If you look at it that a person has a 1 in 3 chance of being involved in a crash then someone who does 10,000 miles a year is less of a risk than someone who does 1,000 a year.

I'll await a post slagging da po po off coz day as got et oot 4 u nd day iz duin it 2 get u.

But dunt wurry bruv, giv em a fals nam. Po po wil neva get ya coz u is da shiz nit! Fight da powa!

I've had a couple of cars at the same time with Lancaster - one of which I was using for a commuter car. I reckon that would be a good way to go.

if you get a multi car policy does it not allow your NCB to be used on all the cars in that policy?

You really aren't doing yourself any favours. rolleyes

If your insurance company is anything like mine, it states "no more than X miles per year". Stick it on 5k miles and just do a few more miles.
Doing 4 or 5 thousand a year is really quite easy.

The thing to remember is that insurance is primarily there (and priced) to cover the costs incurred for the damage you do WITH the car not TO it.

A cheap car has two problems, firstly that it is the type of car driven by young drivers, who tend to crash a lot. As such your profile of cheap car and no NCD for this car ticks two of the three boxes for a high likelihood of a claim. Your age has then worked for you and dropped the price from the silly quotes a teenager would get.

Secondly, cheap cars with no NCD driven by an older driver tend to be the ones used in stages accidents between two drivers where the other car then claims whiplash for the driver and their four passengers. Cost of one of these claims ( if paid) would be c£20000 including solicitors fees, hire car, compensation and write off value.

That's the explanation.
