Towing a Caravan, am I allowed?

I passed 11/09/97

The caravan we are interested in is: Unladen weight 910Kg, MTPLM 1200kg.

Car: Cayenne S Kerb Weight: 2300 kg

I think the answer is "no" then because I believe the "3500kg in total" in "a trailer over 750kg MAM as long as it is no more than the unladen or ‘kerb’ weight of the towing vehicle (with a combined weight of up to 3,500kg in total)" actually refers to the total combined MAM. Your combined MAM will be well over 3500kg - to tow that caravan you'd need a car with an unladen weight of over 1200kg but a MAM of under 2300kg.

I'm not absolutely sure of that, though.

I wonder how many people are actually unaware of the towing rules and are towing illegally?

It's much the same as commercials too, many aren't aware that if you go above a certain combined weight then the van has to be fitted with a tachograph.
