It seems that one of my cheaper insurers bell.co.uk has recently switched to exclusive use of this. When I called up the other day to get a quote, they insisted I had to have it and if I ever exceeded 100mph they'd cancel my policy. I hung up.

I got a quote for one of these insurance policies with a "black box" from a well known provider. They were convinced that they could save me money (I do something like 10,000 miles a year so I am a low mileage driver, so low risk and hence could save even more!). Spent 15 minutes going through the questions, profiling, understanding my typical journey etc....

Worked out at £400 more! Morons.

Told them to shove it and I will stick with my standard policy at the moment. I may be the exception here, but this is being sold by some insurance companies as some sort of magic solution to drive down premiums. Its not, just another trick to continue the massive money making machine that is the car insurance market. 5 more years of keeping the status quo is 5 more years of very happy directors.

When was the last time that you heard that the owners of an insurance company were complaining about not making enough money? Yeah, I havent heard them complaining either....

So would it bump premiums up for me, who tries to avoid braking as much as possible and likes to carry speed into a corner, or for someone who slams on, but goes slower, at any sign of a corner?

But financially incentivising drivers to straight line crves and corners is about as moronic as it gets. Using Gs to control drivers is properly mental as the first thing drivers will do is start slicing corners to cut down the measurements!!!!!!!!

All the while also paying people to brake less.

It just shows how thick the people are with the access to the UK purse strings.

These black boxes will directly cause thickos to be even more dangerous than they currently are on the roads.
