Whenever I sell a car I am often very happy to consider a swap or a trade for another car instead of an outright sale. People have interesting things to trade sometimes.
It strikes me that the huge benefit of using a dealer (I am not a dealer) is the trade in yet in private side of things, the concept of a trade in doesn't really exist. This is a pity because often people want to realise some cash but still have a car and don't want to pay the margin of a dealer in the trade in (which includes the dealer's costs for running their business).
So, coming to the point, I wondered if someone should set up a site for trading for private sellers only. No selling or buying exclusively but purely for trading in upwards or downwards. So you put your car on and say what you are looking for (specific make / model) or you put your car on and say the lower limit of a car you'd accept as a trade.
Do you think this is a good idea or a bad one?
