Anyone for an auction report?
Discussion
Well seeing as I haven’t seen an auction report for a while I thought some of my fellow PHers would like to see just what cars are getting at auction these days. So please find below a small selection of cars that went through this week:-
Range Rover Evoque SD4 Dynamic 61reg 6kmiles £39500
Audi A3 Sportback 2.0 TDi 12reg 3kmiles £19400

Ford Mondeo 2.0 TDCi Ghia 08reg 77kmiles £5000
Alfa Romeo Guilleta 1.6JTDM 61reg 15kmiles £11500
BMW 520D SE 58reg 109kmiles £7700
BMW X3 3.0DMSport 58reg 28kmiles £16600
BMW 520D SE Touring 58reg 50kmiles £13700
Ford Ka 1.2 Style 10reg 17kmiles £4975
VW Golf TDi 140 GT 59reg 12kmiles £11900
BMW 118D SE 10reg 46kmiles £11300
There was a real mix in the quality of the cars; some absolute dogs like the Alfa Romeo Guilleta and some top notch cars like the VW Golf TDi in white. There didn’t appear to be reasoning behind what the cars were fetching – very similar cars were going for 3 or 4 k difference and for the life of me I couldn’t see why one commanded so much more than the other.
BCA seem to have become a bit cheeky (read b1oody greedy) too – they have introduced a new fee that they don’t warn people about: basically you pay your standard buyers commission that you have always paid. Then for private buyers you pay £25 for the registration docs to be processed (very cheeky). But then they have introduced a more detailed inspection report that is available with some cars – this is requested by the seller BUT has to be paid for by the purchaser – with VAT it is £50. Needless to say a lot of people contested this when it came to paying for the cars they had won and caused mayhem at the counters. The end result being those that complained got the fee wavered. Basically if you buy a car for £14500 then you have to pay another £690 in fees – which I think is disgusting and has in all probability put me off buying another one at auction.

You need to buy 4 (i.e you get it reduced on the 4th car) in a 12 month period to get slightly reduced buyers fee at BCA, 13 to get the "standard" rate and 100 in a year to get the full trade rate.
You can get a blue card without buying anything but it won't reduce your rates.
Incidentally, an old shape Ka is a heck of a lot more fun to drive than most Audis from the same era!
