£1300, Pre-1985, Within 100miles of Manchester,...

Ive got £1300 burning a hole in my pocket, want to buy something this week or next. Has to be pre 1985 to get classic insurance. Has to be within 100miles of manchester (maybe 150 if its worth it).
Fuel economy not a problem, reliability would be nice as no garage and not great with spanners. This will be 2nd Car so wont be doing a high mileage.
Old japs, germans? Saloons hatchbacks?
I even like old volvos so try me!
