So you have the MOT fail sheet and you need to replace a brake pipe
You have the knowledge
You have the tools
You have the parts
You get the pipe, slide the fitting on and flare one end and go under the car get everything bent into shape
Then return to the work bench to flare the other end
What are the chances of you forgetting to slide on the fitting

Fabricating your own brake pipes?
It's your funeral.
Okay i'll get the apprentice who is half pissed and brain dead at the main dealers to make them while he plays on bookface on his iPhoneIt's your funeral.
...with a design that has been durability tested and DV/PV tested up their arse for a few years.
As I said. Your funeral. Buy a black suit.

MAKE them? They just fit them. They are made, with proper process controls, at the supplier...

On certain vehicles you cannot get off the shelf replacement pipes, copper replacement home made jobs are perfectly good enough on clubmnen race and rally cars. So long as they are located correctly should easily be up to the job on a road car. ...with a design that has been durability tested and DV/PV tested up their arse for a few years.

I helped a friend fabricate new brake lines on his car several years ago - we replaced all the hard lines on the car, and whilst he and another friend did all the spannering I was responsible for making lines that matched up to the existing ones which were being taken off the car.
Pleased to report the car is still on the road, and my friend has not had any incidents involving brake failure
It's like so many things - buy the right tools and parts, and take your time. It's not rocket science.

Slight overreaction isn't it? I thought it was vaguely common practice for home mechanics....with a design that has been durability tested and DV/PV tested up their arse for a few years.

Or do you think the garage make them up on site or maybe get the local motor factor to make them up?
I've made complete brake pipe sets for two cars so far and haven't killed myself yet. Mind you, I've only given it 25 years or thereabouts and thousands of miles to prove my "engineering ability".
