Learner Driver Insurance ?
Discussion
J4CKO junior #1 is 17 at the end of this month, so we are getting set up for him learning to drive, have ordered the practise tests, am looking for a driving instructor and will insure him as a learner on our Citroen C1.
So, any tips on learner insurance, where to go and how much I can expect to be paying, I suspect I may not like the answers, already anticipating £100 a month plus for lessons and probably as much, if not more to insure him on the car.
Before anyone starts, no this is not fronting, this is our car, not his, my wife uses it for work and we both use it for general errands, he will have occasional lessons in it and if it is not too expensive we will add him for occasional usage on it, not his car, never has been, never will be ! this is simply my son using one of our cars, if he damages it or gets caught for speeding or any other agro then it is game over, if he gets it dirty he cleans it, if he leaves it dirty despite being told its game over.
Also, would like him to do some skidpan training, my dad got me to take some liberties with his old Capri in a car park and I soon realised how low the limits are, think that saved me a crash.

Learnt to drive four years ago. I would advise not insuring him until he can 'drive'. When he's in the car with you he should only be practising not learning. Talk to the instructor and ask them to give you the nod when it's best.
Unless you're advanced driver or an instructor yourself I suppose! Only my tuppence
it did come from my driving instructor uncle though

If your insurer quotes a silly price give Direct Line a try. They seem quite tolerant of "family" situations.

I agree entirely but not right away, you may contradict the instructor. Private car is for getting the hours in but not learning new things, just getting more comfortable and smooth with doing whatever you've already been taughtIf your insurer quotes a silly price give Direct Line a try. Collingwood are very cheap. Its who I used for a couple of months when I was learning the drive. Will insure anything upto an insurance group 16 car for peanuts http://www.collingwoodlearners.co.uk/
For my 24 year old daughter to go on my insurance as a learner is an extra £42 per month
Do not teach a learner unless you are skilled in doing it or have at least had some input from an ADI
If the learner is using you and an ADI then pay the ADI for 30 mins of their time to give you some advice - its worth it in the long run

If i remember correctly it was just over £200 to put me on my parents 1.2 corsa for three months about a year ago.
