After several years of reading the forums but never posting, I thought I'd ask a quick question!

I have an old second car who's MOT has just run out (suspension rebuild taking longer than expected) - I'll prebook the MOT so I'm OK driving the car there but if it fails can I drive it home to do the required work myself or is it stuck there until it's fixed? I've read somewhere that it would be OK but wanted to check before doing it.

Cheers

Mike

I'm pretty sure you are OK driving it away again as long as its not fecked.

If for example it fails on a missing damper strut or something big like that I don't think plod would be too happy.

The exemption from tax and MOT applies both to and from a pre-arranged MOT.

Goes without saying that the vehicle must be insured and roadworthy..

The car is insured, taxed and roadworthy - I just didn't want to end up stuck there and not sure what to do next, so thanks for your replies!

As the car hasnt run for a short while I want to take it for a run first - I assume I don't need to go the shortest route to the MOT station (without going silly about it!)?

I'd say a pedantic copper would ask why you were going the long way. Technically he'd be right and you'd be taking a risk if you had an accident etc.

I suppose I could go somewhere that a bit further away - rather than the place a mile from my house that I was intending going to!

You might be best going directly to the garage and asking them to carefully warm the car up for you/rag the arse of it, before putting it through the test.

Within reason, of course not - just remember that the purpose of the journey is getting the vehicle to (or from) the test centre, not the weekly shopping, or doing a couple of dump trips, or popping to see relatives in the next town, etc.. wink
