The car is a 2010 ford focus 1.6tdci with 49,000 miles on the clock.
Recently the engine malfunction light came on and I lost all power. Called AA guy out who tried the turbo first which was running fine, he then checked the MAF sensor which on visual inspection was fine so he disconnected it anway and took the car for a boot (with me in it). Car ran fine so he tried it with it plugged back in and after a quick foot down power went and engine malfunmalfunction light came back on - problem found - so he left it disconnected so I could use my car over the weekend.
Fast forward to today - I dropped my car off at polar ford in Huddersfield at around 8:15am so hopefully was the first car seen to. Had a phone call at 5pm saying they can't find anything wrong with it at the moment and the mechanic is now bypassing the fuel filter to see if it's that. The woman I spoke to said she won't be able to tell me anything until the morning. Fair enough however I cant believe it's taken this long.
She did say on the phone if it turns out to be the fuel filter then it is a chargeable item as it's a serviceable item.
My service light came on at 49,000 miles and my car is on 49,200 so surely the filter can't have gone already? confused
If it is the filter is there any grounds to get it fixed through warranty? Fair enough its a few quid but there'll be £100 labour or something daft on top knowing dealer prices!
Anyone else think what could have caused it?
(Sorry mods didn't know if it was SP&L or not)
Cheers

Assuming the warranty is good for for the milage you have done and you haven't remaped the car or done any other mods relating to the engine I would be very surprised if this wasn't fixed under warranty.

It's a filter. Would you expect an oil filter to be changed under warranty. Sounds fair enough to me

So let me get this straight - the AA man disconnects the MAF sensor, and the car runs okay, but the Ford garage think it's the fuel filter?

Filters are all serviceable items and not covered by the warranty (unless their failure causes something else to fail). The MAF sensor most likely isn't and should be replaced FOC.

Surely there are stored fault codes from the ECU light coming on? Have they been read?

Seeing as the car runs better with the MAF sensor disconnected, I would assume that would imply that's what the issue is?

So would I but they haven't said they've checked it or not but the mechanic is now checking out fuel filter. Wont find out until morning

So it's 200 miles over due on the service? It's at a Ford dealer. My way out thinking suggests that it may be worth getting it serviced there and then getting them to diag after. Once it's serviced the problem will either be resolved or it'll definately be a warrenty issue

Ok, I see

Odd the AA thought it was the Maf. Though. I don't trust garages tbh and do my own work. However when my daily was in for servicing when it was in under warranty I would nearly always have to ask for the service manager and argue over something they said they did but obviously didn't.

Fair enough. Expect a bill well north of £100 for the labour if it's a service item then.

Well as AA thought it was MAF sensor and it would have been covered by warranty I dropped it in. Wondering if it was a mistake now
