Hi All

Just a hypothetical question, just curious really!

Although all the 'interesting' registration numbers are listed for sale on the DVLA website, how could you go about obtaining one that isn't?
If one wished to purchase the number from a car that no longer exists (scrapped, exported etc), but that the DVLA have not reissued, or have put up for sale, could this be done?

I leave it with you chaps! type

DVLA never reissue a number plate.

The car whose number plate is to be transferred must have a current MOT.

Buy on ebay.

I see, so if the car in question's been scrapped, then the registration mark is gone forever?

What was the "boring" reg you wanted? If it's in the scrappies you'll never see it again unfortunately.

As a family we were just wondering whether we could access the reg from my Grandads old motor. Went to the crusher back in 2007, so its a little too late now tongue out

:cough: It could also be held on retention or entitlement certificate :cough:

But yeah, the likleyhood is that if it was a cheapo plate and the car has been scrapped then it is gone and wont be re-issued
