Looking for a winter 4x4 to replace my ageing, Range Rover LSE, and a little more user friendly for my Wife to drive...(She can't get on with having to short the wires out to adjust the seat in the RR)

Just won this, obviously sight unseen, to be collected with a train ticket and crossed fingers hopefully in the next few days.

What do we think, good move or not ?

Will I get my money back in Spring ?

There's loads about so people can be choosy but it ticks most boxes and looks pretty tidy.

Good strong mechanicals on these old girls and well rust-proofed iirc.

Always had a hankering after them, well done smile

Have been in an I6 one of these before.
It was very plasticky very poor economy 17mpg average showed on the long term trip and for our journey 12!!!

That said at this sort of money worst case you you get scrap value or spares good luck though now let's hope for snow to properly test it.

You probably won't make your money back no, you are buying and selling at similar times to others. However, you'll probably not want rid in the spring since its basically going to be bombproof and serve you valiantly through winter.

The wife won't want rid of it wither wince it'll be a cosy place of refuge during the snow. Keep it till it dies!

good reliable motors, done about 500k miles in jeeps with the I6 motor, current Grand Cherokee just clocked 230k miles and is still going strong on just service items. Keep it in 4wd, they can be a bit interesting in 2wd on a wet road smile

Had one to tool around in for a day. Great fun. It was, however, my first automatic driving experience...a few face-to-windscreen moments that's for sure. I soon learnt to tuck my left foot behind my right...!

Peterborough is about 17 miles away from me. Let us know how it goes as I would be wary of buying from there. Spent quite a lot of time looking around the car yards and they have a lot of crap smile

Hope this purchase bucks the trend smile . If its a private sale it should be fine.

I loved mine although it had no Lpg. Great motors and the only thing wrong with mine was the floor. Rusted away really bad

You shouldn't lose too much on it, however does your wife like oversteer? 4.0 Cherokees are pretty pokey and in RWD on the road can be pretty wayward, mine was anyway. If she's used to the security of RR permanent 4WD it might come as shock going round a wet roundabout sideways! driving

We've also got a Suzuki Cappuccino, it only goes sideways !

It's only an emergency winter wheels, she has a perfectly respectable (!) C5 (Citroen not Corvette) for everyday duty.

It's mainly as my Jag won't even get out of the driveway, and I have a fairly hectic, and non negotiable winter work schedule.

Each year a winter snotter comes & goes, so far an £1100 Pajero was the best !
