Evening all, after coming up 5 weeks without my car (see here: http://www.abarthforum.co.uk/500-abarth/more-bad-l... it's apparently due to be completed on Friday.

Now my insurance is through quotemehappy and they advised I would be £200 excess on top of my £400 to nominate my own garage. I decided against it and it is currently with their own nominated accident repair centre in Aberdeen. Now just by conincidence, two of my work colleagues have had their cars "repaired" here. The most recent (just a couple of months ago) got their car back after 3 months. This included it having to go back because it hadn't been repaired right. It also failed it's MOT just days after he got it back on a part they failed to fix. He ended up paying another £400 to get it fixed somewhere else.

Now I'm a little worried as even the tiniest hint of overspray and I won't be happy. Apparently the car is being repaired by chassis number and I'll get a receipt of all parts. One example of a concern is the car has the Abarth Esseesse wheels with Michelin Pilot Exalto tyres. I reminded the garage of this but they said the insurer has a "deal" with certain garages with regards to tyres. Again I won't be happy if the car comes back with a mid-range or budget tyre.

So in summary, if I see anything I don't like no matter how small, do I reject the car there and then, or do I "accept" it but phone my insurance when home to raise any concerns? I certainly will be putting a note at the bottom of the signature box to say "not fully checked" even if everything seems ok.

Any feedback much appreciated.

Edit: Post as follows from the link since it's members only...

Well yesterday I was in a great mood and looking forward to getting my car sorted in 2 weeks after all the issues I've been having. I'm on my usual drive to work in Aberdeen on the same road I've driven over 3 years. Coming up a hill to a crossroad junction where the light is green, I'm behind a 52 plate Corsa in the inside lane. Now the outside lane is for traffic going straight and when I turn the corner the road leads to a roundabout where I need to be in the outside lane.

So I'm keeping a 2 second distance behind the Corsa, pass the green light and start turning. I can see pedestrians on my right and I'm aware some drivers try to cut up on the outside lane when they should be going straight on, therefore before I pull out into the outside lane I look right for a second to ensure the road is clear. I start turning the wheel to the right whilst turning my head to look straight on and the Corsa driver is suddenly at a complete standstill. I end up having no time to react and end up smashing into his rear bumper on the driver side at about 15/20mph.

I'm ok but I'm instantly more worried about the car. As I look to pull over the guy starts trying to drive off, and luckily my engine is still running I pull out to get ahead of him before stopping so he can't drive off. Seems really puzzling why he tried to do a runner when it would be classified as my fault technically for crashing into the back of him. His reason for stopping was that there was a pedestrian on the side of the road he thought was going to walk out. He also saw the traffic light far off to his right (WHICH WAS FOR TRAFFIC COMING STRAIGHT ON FROM THE OTHER JUNCTION) and that also made him decide just to stop completely. He was also from Dundee.

I'm absolutely gutted as I'd been keeping my distance, I drive the same road everyday and by looking out for hazards, I don't spot the one that ends up damaging my car. Luckily I got my protected no claims, but my £400 excess is gone. The car is also going to a garage where my friend at work had his car repaired - it took 3 months to get back and the workmanship was so poor he had to pay £400 to get it properly repaired at another garage. Where do I stand with insurance? Do I have to go with where they say?

Anyway I now have a lovely Hyundai i10 to keep me going. And I'll phone my insurance to raise my concerns about the body place before they start doing stuff to the car, as I won't accept anything less than the exact spec. Pics of the car...

What you can't see is a big chip on my Esseesse rim, along with a 1cm deep gash in the tyre frown Xenon is fecked, DLR is fecked, bonnet has a huge dent, bumper is wrecked, Xenon washer tank is bust, passenger wing is wrecked, door is scratched up the side where it opened onto the damaged wing.

Hoping for better luck next year. To top it all, I got into the Hyundai tonight and the top of the door caught my lip and bust it open!

If you're not happy with any of the work, simply phone your insurance company and get them to straighten it out

From my experience of 'approved repairers', I'd be expecting more scratches and dints than it went in with. Don't expect it to be clean inside either, the last one i got back had a crust of filler and paint dust over everything.

I'd expect to be disappointed.

Also why did it take 5 weeks - parts availability ?

Personally I'd check it upon collection and refuse it if it's not right BUT you want to make sure you list ALL the bits you aren't happy with and look EVERYWHERE

I suspect you'll never be happy with it again.

I've had a car back which suddenly started to drink fuel. Eventually after 3 visits, it was discovered that the air filter was 'lacquered'.

Similar experiences to others, used the repairer the insurance company recommended and it had to go back in twice for them to try again and even after that there were still bits I wasn't happy with. It was my Mrs car and she had got tired of the hassle so ended up accepting it.

If it was my car I would have turned up in the hire car, inspected my own car and driven back out in the hire car again.

Don't let go of the i10 until you are happy with the repair!

If it was anything like our Panda 100HP then it takes them a month to get the parts from Fiat.

Thanks everyone. Sadly I am expecting to be disappointed but fingers crossed. Apparently a sub-frame is the reason it's been held up so long. I've re-booked it into Abarth the beginning of December for warranty work so I'll get them to point out anything that isn't fixed right as repairs are guaranteed 3 years
