Here is a conversation we were having down the pub, and my rather dodgy conclusion.

Since the ford and vaxhaull exec saloons, (hatchbacks somtimes), are not around in the showrooms, what are all the old boys i used to see in them buying new nowadays?

around my way there seems to be more than our fair share of over 65's in BMW X1's, so is this the new granada?

in the interest of limits we asume that they are buying these things with savings not on tick, ie they cant afford a five series, just like back in the day.

so, a new car retirement treat to yourself........what is the new Granada?

I would imagine something small and Korean, if you're talking new. There is no modern Granada as tastes and economics have ruled them out and a pensioner can no longer tax or service a car like that and modern cars with letterbox windows are not likely to ever be popular with older folk with limited mobility.

I suspect a used BMW 5 series is the new Granada, if anything at all.

Surely the current showroom Mondeo is the equivalent of the Grandada pictured? Big 4-door Ford hatch? Why the OAP's are driving something different is probably for the same reasons lots of under 65's are driving something different too.
