It's a big hatch, but 12k will get you a two year old Seat Leon 2.0tsi. Quite a sorted car with a very tuneable lump. Would be my choice.

What era though? As for that sort of money. with no specification of age of car in your post, there's a fairly large number of turbo'd hot hatches to choose from, that have been manufactured over the years
