I ordered some tyres on line, turns out one of them is incorrect. I wanted 225/40 R18 92W Vredestein Wintrac. This one is a 225/45 R17 94Q. A quick google suggests Q indicates a 99 mph speed rating. What car would this be fitted to? It seems a modern fairly sporty size, a highish load rating but a really low speed rating.

It's quite common for winter tyres to have a much lower speed rating than the equivalent 'summer' tyre.

The theory being that you'll be travelling slower in wintery conditions.
IIRC, you're meant to fit a sticker to the speedo if you fit winter tyres with a lower speed rating than the 'normal' summer tyres.

I guess in winter conditions most people won't go above 100mph - The speed rating doesn't mean the tyre will explode as soon as you go over 99mph - it means its designed to run at that speed all day long - so the odd excursion over the rated speed is normally fine
