Do you remember vinyl LPs of engine sounds?
Discussion
In the late 70's my Dad used to drag me to Santa Pod to enjoy a day of top fuel racing while I stood and cried at the noise (but that's another story). When we weren't at the track he would often loudly play an LP of dragster engine noises at full blast in the living room (which didn't make me cry so much) and occasionally a cassette of road car engine noise too. IIRC, Fast Lane magazine gave away the cassette as a cover gift?
Anyone else remember these LPs?
I also recall listening to a Jamiroquai track (name escapes me) that had the engine noise of a Lambo at the beginning on repeat, and still to this day I am quite happy to sit with my headphones on and listen to YouTube vids of engine sounds.
I'd love to get my hands on one of the dragster noise LPs today...

On a vaguely similar theme, when a new car lands I go hunting for a straight in-car driving video, thankfully becoming more plentiful with the rise of GoPro HDs. Car reviews have their place but sometimes you want to see someone simply driving down a road with a great noise in real conditions... Feels more tangible.
I've got one of the Fast Lane cassettes, the one with the quattro on it - there's another thread somewhere on here about them. I didn't hear any LPs of it, but we had (probably still have) the stereo demonstration record with the steam train on it. It was particularly of interest because my Dad drove steam engines when he started work, and had been driving some of the steam specials just before he retired.
I have a great cd that was free from (top gear??) magazine. V16 BRM, so, so good.
Used to have a mini with a rediculous sound system in (long story, but no i don't own a cap, backwards or not).
Turning it up to 11 and sitting in a car park at full blast used to have everyone spinning their heads round trying to spot the race car, only to see a fairly grubby base model mini one sat doing bugger all =)

The track in question is Travelling without Moving...
..and it's funky as!The soundtrack isn't very PH though because the engine is heard starting then immediately given the beans from a standstill. Naturally a PHer would've recorded the engine starting, and then 10 minutes of gentle driving to warm the oil first...

Nick Mason's book used to come with sounds of his cars, IIRC.
Speaking of which, this may be a good stocking filler...http://www.amazon.co.uk/Rockin-Garages-Collecting-...

The V12V is one of the best-sounding cars in years. That piece on Top Gear was brilliant, despite that big ape talking in it.I've got the Nick Mason book with a CD of Ferrari engine noises somewhere. My dad also has the steam trains on vinyl.
You can't beat a nice engine noise. Last night after I picked my daughter up from school we ended up behind a Maserati. It wasn't long before she asked me why I'd opened the window when it was dark and cold!

When I was about 6 I bought an LP of train sounds at the National railway museum.
We recorded it onto a tape and payed it when we were playing with the train set in the spare room.
The tracks were titled things like:
"December 6 1962, and a North bound A4 pacific passes Selby on a frosty trip to Newcastle. In the distance a Saddle tanker works empty coal wagons from the pit."
