Other people - is it just me or are they rubbish?
Discussion
Car for sale on PH, took a call in the week from someone wanting to come and see it today. Ran through loads of info over the phone, arranged for 'lunchtime' today that they would come and see it.
I've washed it, fuelled it and made sure all the documentation is together and in order, both keys present etc. Not to mention keeping the day clear to accommodate a 'window' for the person.
Texted to confirm this morning only to receive the reply, "Thanks but I'm looking for a bigger car."
As if they didn't know that days ago and could have let me know. I turned down alternative plans in order to be here today for this. Frankly it's just plain rude and it's the third time it's happened.
Had an email from someone asking to come see it on Monday, perhaps my faith will be restored.

I'm selling a Mitsubishi Carisma diesel which has covered 17k from new. The poor elderly chap who I bought it from paid for main dealer servicing on time rather than mileage throughout the cars life, including £790 to change cam belt and water pump at 14k!,,
Time warp sort of car and I was pleasantly surprised that one full 60l tank resulted in 602 miles before refill. I've advertised it and I have had no end of people phoning offering to buy the car, today, with cash, at less than half the asking price. One bloke phoned yesterday telling me he was on his way. I specifically asked him to call or text if he changed his mind, got lost, whatever....nothing. I call him and get pushed to voicemail.
Selling a car privately is exhausting...

How much did you buy the car for before advertising it at £3495 as a private seller?I'm selling a Mitsubishi Carisma diesel which has covered 17k from new. I've had my E39 528i on sale a while. 256000miles with rebuilt twin vanos, new lower control arms, drop links, loads of history, huge spec. Still drives great. I put on the advert £500 no offers as I can break it for way more and had some moron call me to tell me that since he only wanted the engine and had to travel far to collect he would pay £300. I told him the price is 500 and that's that. He started to get arsey and told me I had to sell him the car for 300 because he only wanted the motor. He went on and on about how it was his right to buy the car for 300 untill I hung up on the idiot.
My 1972 Dodge Charger project (advertised needing complete restoration) ellicited a response from a kid who wanted to know what the cars 'current top speed' was and since he was 16 how much to insure it.

I never wait around for someone coming to view, esspecially if they havent got in touch. Had it so many times where ive sat around all day waiting and they never show.
If they say they will here at a certain time and don't have the decency to text or call to say they will be late, I will give them 30mins then go out on principle so I'm not here if they do show up.
Sounds silly but if they are going to waste my time then they can f
k off.

Also £3495 for a Carisma, is the boot full of coke?
have you thought of wewantanycar.com? They come highly recommended by completely unbiased PHers....

When valuing your car, wewantanycar.com use CAP data and the information you provide. The CAP price range falls into 4 categories: Retail, Clean, Average and Below Average.
Based on the information you provide about the condition of the vehicle, service history, tax and MOT dates etc, accurate info means an accurate quote. In some cases (cars in exceptional condition) are actually bought for above the max stated CAP value.
I've done a few cars with these guys, purely because it's quick and easy and I live very close to one of their branches. I also get bored of cars really quickly lol. In my experience, if you're completely honest about the car, you don't get disappointed - and they do always offer a better price than the competition

Story of my life reading this! It's hard enough getting the phone to ring and get people appointed on my cars for sale, only for them not show or to waste my time upon viewing and driving my newly valeted/fuelled car, with no follow up "I'll let you know" call. It's what's called the human condition. People absolutely take the p1ss.
A few years ago I had my clio 172 up for sale on here and autotrader.
Bloke from Cambridge rang to ask if he could come down on the weekend to view the car. Fine I said, give me a text when you are leaving to give me an estimated arrival time (car in South Wales).
He text me at 9am on the Sat to say he was leaving......never seen or heard anything of him after that. I tried ringing him but his phone went straight to voicemail. Can only assume he either got very, very lost or died on the trip down. Wasted a day waiting for him!
Second bloke did turn up looking to buy a car for his wife, looked round the car and all was as described. We went for a test drive where he said that it was a quick car. He asked me what engine it was, after telling him it was a 2.0 he said his wife wanted a 1.4 and it was not for her!!??

I'd always rather take less money and go through a dealer or similar than try flog a car privately. I just can't be added with the extra hassle.
Never sold a car privately yet, so that's not just lip service.
I've only sold one car privately, I got sick of a certain group of "best price" phone calls. In the end though a young lad came to look at the car and loved it, I was happy seeing the car go to an owner who would love it as much as i did. Never sold a car privately yet, so that's not just lip service.
Yes everybody is stupid, This is why i have no friends and live alone in solitude enjoying nothing but myself and moaning about everybody else on the internet. Living that good likfe of a superstar. I heard Simon cowel spends his days moaning on on internet forums and arguing with people on youtube when hes not doing x factor.
Well completely out-of-keeping with the moaning I started in this thread, the couple who emailed asked if they could come and see it today... They were really lovely, she's owned a Puma before so they knew what they were looking for. Took them for a short test drive and they've left a deposit with me and will be back to collect it one evening this week!
After being mucked about by people it was nice to find buyers who were a pleasure to deal with.
