Was offered a vintage Louis Vitton trunk with papers and COA in trade for a bike. I'd have had to put a bit of cash in, but I reckon it'd have made a good investment. Sadly I needed the cash at the time.

A friend of mine once had a damaged '72 Mini for sale. I asked him what he wanted for it, he was after a means of transport to get to work. "What, like a bicycle?" I said. "Yeah, that'll do".

I went to another mate who had the remains of a bike shop in his garage unit, bought the only complete running bike which was an old ladies shopper for the princely sum of 4 quid, cycled up and swapped it for the Mini which I drove home. First thing I did was lift up all the carpets, check under seats etc and found 2 quid. A pair of headlights later and an hours work with a hammer and the car was ready for sale. I sold it a week later for about £120 iirc.

I once took a mountain bike in px from a e34 520i SE. Bmw was on 170k with short t&t but 1 prev owner and mint - prob worth advertised at £999. Got the bike & £500 cash. Sold the bike at the end of the summer for £1000 - result. Sadly I saw the once mint Bmw about 6 moths later Barry'd to death.
