Youve probably been there, doing 0.8 leptons on the M(whatever) and cruising when someone else passes. It's clear to pull out, the car in front is slowing down and you pull out and follow. Then, before you know it you've done many miles in tandem with this other vehicle and either slowed to make sure their not unmarked or they've slowed to check you out and then crack on.

Followed (and was followed by) a DB9 today on the way back from the west country making progress where possible with obvious communication relating to safety devices and helping out in traffic flow which made the journey much more interesting!

Anybody else get this?

Sheffield to Northampton in 2000, making good progress, nothing passed us and only stopped to let him know his exhaust rubber hanger was on fire! I was in an import mr2 and I am 99% sure he was in a corrado vw.
If that was you and your reading this, hello

Dark country road one of my fave hoon routes something gathered quickly in my mirror it was a new audi from the headlights thinking great another of the tdi brigade rolleyes but no he kept his distance but was still close enough to be playful this went on for about 10mins untill we reached a D/C.

This is where he put his foot down and gave me the pleasure of a WOT pass its this moment I find it's an RS6 estate cool which quickly became a spec in the distance.

So thank you sir to anon RS6 driver smile

Christmas Day 2005, off oop North to see the children, almost completely deserted M1 from the M25 to Milton Keynes, and I was following a Guards 911 at a decent distance in a nice subtle black 944. Didn't drop below 100 the whole trip to Hull, but that stretch was outstanding.

Heading along the A44 on my sportsbike I start over taking some traffic one at a time, as I clear a van I pull in behind a cop on a motorbike.

He then starts over taking, so I follow 1 car behind, we clear the traffic and then do 15 miles at about 90mph before he turns off with a wave.

Was a good start to a loooong journey.

Years ago I often found myself in 'fast convoy' with a 325i E30 in a similar gunmetal colour to my Rover 600Ti during my daily A46 commute through Gloucestershire. I never met the gentleman face to face but we seemed to share a similarly considered approach to getting around swiftly in low key fashion and it helped to pass the miles..

Many years ago, driving from tarbert to cambletown A83 in my Audi 80 sport,I had what looked like an RAF officer in a car I can't remember following me safely for many miles on the superb road,we were making great progress, one of the best drives on the open road I ever had.
Sounds a bit vague I know...

A Vectra estate that was making progress around the empty lanes between Wrexham and Chester. I was with another mate and was following him home. Whoever was in the Vectra really seemed to know how to make the best of it safely and it was a right laugh for a bit until we lost him at a set of traffic lights. Turned out he'd pulled into a lay-by after the lights and as we slowed to have a look and make sure it wasn't unmarked plod, we continued past and he pulled out behind and the three of us carried on zipping through the lanes until we got to the outskirts of Chester. Quick toot of the horn and a thumbs up and we went our separate ways.

Proves nicely you don't have to have the best handling and fastest car to have some fun. I was in my old Omega which despite its suspension work was still a little bit of a boat and the autobox slowed it down a little, it was still brilliant pushing the old barge on a bit.

A mate and I were in our Caterhams making swift progress cross-county up through the middle Wales. An Audi RS6 tagged on and followed our overtakes and stuck with us for about an hour.
Through the quiet twisty bits we could lose sight of him, then at the end of a long straight he would come thundering up behind us again at serious speed.

Exchanged a flash of lights and a raised hand wave when we went our seperate ways. It was all most agreeable.

I got this a lot when I had my Clio 182, with pretty much any other Renaultsport model. Most memorable was just a few weeks ago, heading down a lovely road (no idea, nr. Loughborough) never driven it before, was going pretty quickly, but was wary that I didn't have a clue what was coming next, so being cautious I suppose. New shape Megane 250 appears behind me, sticks behind for a while, then flys past (I just like to think he knew where he was going!) and I do my best to keep up with him. We swapped headlight/hazard flashes as I indicated into a side road. Always makes driving a pleasure when you come across a like-minded petrolhead.

few months back I was following one of those sporty vw minibus type things along the twistier part of my route. It's only a 10-15min blast but nonetheless very fun - although often too busy. I thought this would be the case, as I wasn't expecting a german lump to shift like it did, but my god it did and i very much enjoyed following him - and there was some impressive control going on as well.
An unlikely pair - a diesel 306 and a vw minibus, but nonetheless i'd like to think there was mutual appreciation when we parted.

A couple years ago I turned onto the Usk to Chepstow to be greeted by a 206 not far ahead which really pissed me off... only they were also in a bit of a rush and it turned into a great drive wink

I often get a "buddy" on a motorway, it seems to only happen in the 911 but someone will be catching up to me slowly, and then sit behind me and let me figure out when to overtake etc. Never got a problem with it except for when it's a newish BMW/Volvo estate and I can't see who's inside, always trips my unmarked radar smile

Last buddy I got on a hoon was a Spyker(!) - it joined from a side road, I assumed he'd want to play and so I wound the car up to about 7/10ths, we had a blast round the twisties and after a while I pulled into a layby for a (warm, shaken up) energy drink and a fag - the Spyker driver, who'd fallen slightly behind as I'd got round a slower car just before a set of twisties, gave me a honk and a wave as he went past. Great times!

I also remember getting tagged by another Mini on the motorway back to London. Classic Minis are a rare sight on motorways these days, particularly as 4-speed ones can't really do above 65 if the owner's got any mechanical sympathy. I was doing a steady 60, another Mini joined a little further ahead from a sliproad, and I slowly gained on him up to the point I overtook. As I went round, I exchanged a wave with the driver, who then followed me at the dizzying 60mph speed I was doing, until my junction about 15 minutes later. Another wave and we parted ways.

Surprisingly I've also convoyed with another 911 on the M25! The place where Porsche drivers are invisible to each other. Pulled up alongside one at the lights at the A3/M25 junction, quite an attractive lass smiled and gave me a wave back. She was in the outside lane of the two and thankfully the driver behind her didn't appear to like accelerating, so there was a nice gap behind her for me to slot into (oo-er). We got onto the motorway and I was very surprised when she gunned it, of course I obliged as well. We were doing slightly naughty speeds but only for two junctions as she indicated off with another smile and wave as I went past. As it turns out, a Carrera S is as fast as a Carrera S.

Driving down a dual carriagegway a little while ago, as I entered from the sliproad something moved over to give me space to join and then took off. It such impressive progress from 40mph to about 70mph, and I had just seen four black rings on it's N/S door. It was a white Audi Quattro. I followed it along lane 2 as we sailed past the evening traffic and when we got to the parting roundabout. He was going South, I was going North. I looked over and gave a thumbs up to the lads in the Quattro, they nodded and gave a thumbs up back before we went our separate ways.

It was nice to see a Quattro being driven the way God intended. It sounded great too. And it made me smile to think the AWD system in my A8 started it's life with Audi in the Quattro. For any petrolhead watching it must have been a treat to see, the original AWD rally homologation special and a flagship V8 driving along in tandem.

A few months ago in the summer at about 1 in the morning I came up behind a black Saab turbo after taking a roundabout a rather a quick pace. Having seen a pair of lights suddenly creep up on home mr Saab boots it away. The back end drops and I'm treated to a nice exhaust note and a lung full of de-catted exhaust gas through air vents. He's clearly got a few more ponies than my mx5 and opens up a bit of a gap. Being close to my house i know the roads well so managed to catch up a bit as the road got more bendy.

As I was turning off I gave him a quick flash of the high beam and i received a few flashes of his hazards. Presume he had a wee chuckle to himself like I did.

We caught onto a red 964 C2 and a BMW M-coupe on the way to FOS this year. Made some pretty rapid progress all the way there, was a great little convoy.

I was once chased around Wistow, near leicester by some German metal. Wasn't quite sure if he was hooning a bit too aggressively or trying to run me off the road. Seemed like the latter, I think I interrupted his dogging sesh.

If it was any of you guys, let me know! Was fun, although terrifying

Driving from Manchester back down south once, I was sitting in lane 1 of the M6 doing 85 (it was late), when I slowly caught up to a BMW E46 doing about the same, he accelerated up to about 90, and I just followed his lead as he overtook and returned to lane 1. After a little while he got paranoid I was a copper and slowed down a bit... then sped up back to what he was doing before when he realised I was just enjoying the drive.

I live near a good hooning road, where without fail there will be bikers and various tasty metal hooning up and down it on weekend mornings, was recently on this road having a bit of a hoon when a bike (not a sports bike) pulled out from a side road. I followed along this straight section and considered overtaking as I would like to have been going faster but thought better of it. Then we got to the twisties... and off he went, I obliged and tried to keep up. We got to the roundabout at the end, and went 180. Hooned our way back down, until we reached some traffic and he flashed his hazards and did a 7 car overtake. I almost followed, but it would have been close!
