Z3 with NO history whatsoever
Discussion
Hi everyone,
Call me a tool but I have just bought a Z3 which has no service history and no books/receipts etc. Ok so it was cheap, the car drives great and looks tidy for the age inside, outside, underneath etc are all good. Engine, gearbox etc all seems fine. Very slight play on steering as an advisory on last MOT. I have heard there is a number for BMW service history retrieval. Before I ring this number is it worth it or does it talk rubbish to you for 10 minutes before you get anywhere.
Also thought it may be worth writing in here incase anybody had any knowledge of the car. T275 LPV
is the plate. Its Black with red/Black Leather. Can anybody Help??
Dave

Hardly 'Motoring News' is it? Were you aiming for the BMW section
BMW Customer Services ( website) vehicle information line is 0906 209 0001 and costs £1/minute - although it only supposedly starts charging once you're actually speaking to someone.
They'll only give you dates of visits and to which dealership, and then you'll have to call them all to see if they'll tell you what was completed.

Probably a fair gamble on a modern car, if it was cheap. As said, cambelt and service, good to go!
An endorsement of these cars if it helps.
My ex had one around 1999 / 200. It was a 1.9. She used to do loads of miles commuting, and the dozy woman just didn't worry about servicing it. One day I got in it, and saw the service lights all going bananas on the dash. I asked when she'd last had it serviced, and she just mumbled and looked down at her feet
I pulled the dipstick - no oil showing. I told her it wasn't moving from outside my house until I'd at least done an oil and filter change.
When I dropped the sump, I could not believe my eyes. I have no idea why the oil light had not illuminated on the dashboard - because instead of 4 litres of oil running out, all I got was 2 litres of sludgy, tar-like gunk
Never seen anything this bad in all my years of working on cars!
Anyway, looking at the book, she'd done about 35,000 miles since the last service, and hadn't done so much as even checked the oil level.
Amazingly, after my mini service, the car kept on running like a sewing machine for another 2 years until it's sale.
So - testament to the build quality! I would guess that you're pretty safe with yours mate.

You were right to call it time on somebody who doesn't realise the importance of a simple oil change! An endorsement of these cars if it helps.

Fab shag though. I do miss that about her

But anyway, can't ignore the neglect of cars. That's life and death importance!

You guys want a laugh? In America buyers rarely ask about service records and I can't remember the last time I saw a used car on one of our lots with a stamped service book.
Right now we have well over 100 used cars in stock and I doubt more than a few have stamped service books. In fact, if we see service receipts in the glove box when a car is traded we shred them per our privacy policy.
Granted, Americans tend to service their vehicles much more frequently than Europeans, 3k mile oil change intervals are still very normal.

T275lpv?
That was my mates old car. He rolled it after doing skids in mcdonalds car park, then had a small fire under the bonnet. Was ok though, he bought the roof and back end of a write off, quick respray and good as new. Dave is mint with a stick welder.
Fab engine in that motor, really is reliable. I saw dave buzzing it off the limiter from cold every day, nevr missed a beat. Only uses 1 litre of oil every 2k miles. Hope you enjoy the car, me and fat betty certainly did!
