I've always though this is a good alternative to petrol/electric vehicles. BMW where all for it once and seem to be again smile

Not sure how keen I'd be on the cryogenic tank in the boot. Other than that it's a little bit awesome smile

5.6mpg when running on hydrogen though, apparently! Although it does have a 45 gallon hydrogen tank, which I suppose eases the pain somewhat.

5.6mpg? That will never take off. Shame as I really liked the idea

Although a gallon of petrol has almost four times the energy capacity of a gallon of hydrogen...

And the fact that they are now testing, behind other marques!

You do realise they are going hybrid soon? Having just done a trade with Toyota, BMW Diesel for Toyota HSD

Well they made them some 6 or 7 years ago. And they're not testing them, they only let a certain amount of them go to relatively important people. People that they thought would promote the car and technology.

So that must've been someone with some importance in that car!

How are you able to tell from that picture that it runs on hydrogen?

It's the badge on the boot.

At the moment (burning) hydrogen in a car is a joke.

Poor energy density, storage issues, and the worst thing is producing the stuff, its not free, it takes tons of power to make, unless that power is green or free somehow then its a pointless exercise.

That would depend on how much a gallon of hydrogen costs.

There's a 7 series "Active Hybrid 7" that I see from time to time locally. Looks to be about a year old.

The hybrid thing was inevitable tbh, but they are testing and have been for years. Its a bd to make work (even collecting hydrogen into a tank for starters) but the idea of a car that only emits water is too tasty to ignore smile

Hydrogen powered cars does seem like good idea but what happens in an accident?

Hydrogen is IMHO not the way foreward. But if do do take Hydrogen and mix it with CO2 we get Methane (and water). CO2 + 4 H2 -> CH4 + 2 H2O
If we burn the Methane, the CO2 we emitt in the athmosphere equals the exact amount we took from it before. So it is quasi CO2 nutral. The efficiency of the electrolysis (idealy made from solar power) is at the moment around 80%. But MIT just developed a catalyst which brings it almost up to 100%.

H2 ist the most common element in the univers. And apparently we got enough CO2... so together with the sun this will open us a virtualy unlimeted source of power.

And the beauty is, we can convert almost any petrol driven car!!! I wouldn't mind converting my classic to gas the very first day all the petrol stations serve methane. Together with the embodies energy written of after 50 years i will have the greenest car of them all and it still makes all the noise....

As oppose to an electric car that emits nothing and uses about 4 times less energy in the process. (compared to electricity usage creating hydrogen from water)

You're right its very common.... unfortunatley most of it is under going nuclear fusion with a star.
Is it a tanker you plan to use to collect hydrogen from the sun or just a pipe?
