A friend asked for advice about tyres for his car, a 2001 S320. Size of rear tyre is 275/35/19.

I gave him my view. I reccomended FK453s. I gave him links to internet forums here the quality of Fullrun tyres are questioned.

I have used the usual lines like "its the only thing connecting your car to the road"

He is still not convinced, I have showed him independent tyre tests, says he doesnt believe them....

I'm clearly not making the agruement well enough.....

Any advice?

+1.
A chap at work questioned me when i suggested Falkens etc, rather than Nexens.
Turns out the Nexens are ste, make an awful noise, and have all the grip of a buttered bannana skin.
unlucky for him.

Thanks.

I have pointed out pictures of 8 month old Fullruns that had a split around the entire circumference of the tyre.

What I can't find is any independent tests that have tested Fullrun tyres. I have seen them in the flesh, the thread pattern looks like it was done by a graphic designer.

They're still better than the tyres of 10-20 years ago and I don't recall hearing about cars falling off the road constantly.

If he's a tightwad who pootles to work on his daily commute then who really cares? Clearly he's not into his driving otherwise he'd know the benefits of good tyres.

I sell them and they're cheap for a reason. Let him get on with it and wait until he comes to the first round about when it's wet laugh

Cheers RetroTed,

Have you seen how they tyres hold up after use? I need some first hand evidence to push the point home.

I may on occasion have to use the car and would rather not do it with ditch finders.

He is not tight at all, he just thinks its all marketing and that people are too hard on Chinese goods.

I bought some wheels off eBay for my wife's Jag about a year ago,I was very pleased to see the tyres were almost new even though they were Fullruns.

I was even more pleased that it was me not her driving the first time it rained after fitting them,if you've ever seen the Mark Higgens Isle Of Man Subaru save then you'll know something of what it's like to go around the M1 to M25 slip(ha!)road at 70 in the wet next to one of Norbert Dentressangle's finest whilst driving a Fullrun shod Jaguar S-type.needless to say I changed them the next day,it would be safer to drive on bald tyres!

They don't give ANY grip in the wet due to the rubber being too hard.... They do suffer from side walls splitting so we don't offer them anymore

If he's only concerned with saving money, why not remind him that cheap tyres often create greater rolling resistance and may well end up costing more than premium tyres?

Well I ran a big single turbo, 509bhp Mazda RX7 FD3 with no traction control etc. on Fullruns for 6 months, never had a problem with them. I think its mostly down to the driver, rain + roundabout + crap driver will always end in tears..

Seems like Fullrun are not EU rated or been submitted for rating....so either they will submit tyres form testing or they will vanish from the shelves - The parent company also make Autogrip tyres.

The Chinese made tyres and brands will have to pass the EU 3 way test, which although the EU have been slated for many things is a good start when buying tyres and will weed out the less than good tyres....

I have said in other threads on tyres that recently I put some Sunitrac 9000 tyres (supplied by etyres) to my aftermarket alloys on my Mazda Bongo Camper. Being heavy and 4x4, load rating of 101 XL is more important in my case than the W speed rating on the tyre and I rarely wring its neck or drive like my arse is on fire.

Needless to say I checked the EU rating and for the tyre size it was the better rating than Bridgestone,Goodyear,Michelin & Toyo tyres and equivalent to other favourite brands mentioned on PH. The treadwear rating is 400 A A the same as Michelin.

My experience so far inc 80 mph driving in dry & wet as well as usual driving is they are very good. They are quieter than the Pirelli that they replaced and feel better on the road (now being an oldie and driving for 30+ years with road cars and track cars). So far I am happy with them...clear standing rain water easily and looking in the mirror, I wouldn't like to be behind me with the spray they produce. All I would say is do your homework on these tyres and the EU marking could,I say could, give a good starting point for your tyre choice. You pays your money....

So the man who sells tyres for a living no longer sells them because they break up and are dangerous to drive with.

If that won't stop him buying them nothing will.

I do find it ridiculous that people insist that the cheapeast thing around is the best.
