Who's had good (and bad) experiences of the following:-

AA Warranty
Click 4 Warranty
Go Car Warranty
Warranty Direct
Warranty Wise

I guess the consensus will be 'waste of money' 'they'll find a way of not paying' etc etc, but out of the aftermarket warranty companies which of them offers the best cover and pays most relaibly when you make a claim?

No experience of any of them I'm afraid. I was researching 3rd party warranties a couple of weeks ago and had pretty much decided on Warranty Wise. Not cheap at nearly £500 for a years' cover, but it looked like the most comprehensive level of cover available for a 5.5 year old car, and there seemed to be fewer horror stories on the Internet about Warranty Wise than some of the other companies. In the end I traded the car and bought new.

I've had several emails since from Warranty Wise offering various incentives like an extra month free, or additional items cover e.g. emissions failure, air bags etc... so it's worth holding out or haggling.

Also, there's 15% off all Warranty Wise warranties until 18th November.

I dealt with Warranty Direct. They paid out for an ABS control unit and fuel pump on a Grand Espace without any hassle. I can't remember what the premium was but it was obviously reasonable enough for me to take it. I think it was their top-end warranty which covered pretty much everything. Check the conditions and exclusions carefully. You should be able to do this before committing.

It was a big relief when they paid out since replacing the fuel pump on a 3.0 V6 diesel Espace means removing and refitting the engine (book time 18 hours!) and the ABS unit is several hundred quid from Renault.

I got stung by warranty direct on a manifold replacement on my BMW 530d. I was without the car for three weeks while I argued with them over why they have voided my claim, in the end BMW gave me goodwill on the part and I paid the labour to get the car back. Only manufacturers own warranties for me now, would have had the car back the next day if I had done that instead of going with WD.

My passat came with a warranty from World of Warranty and they did pay out for a new radiator under one claim and a new aircon evaporator under another claim.

They were very keen to make sure the car had been serviced either to the stated intervals. (either the manufacturers or their own stated in the policy)
