I have an 02' Audi A4 (see my garage) which I bought just over 18 months ago.

Anyway, it has what looks like a factory towbar fitted but I don't have the bit that detaches. The hole is there underneath behind a neat pull down cover and the electrics socket swivels down on a hinge and is all wired up and correct.

Does anyone know where I can but just the detachable bit from? Everywhere I've tried only sells the whole towbar kits, Audi also only sell the whole lot.

I tried writing to the previous owner but they don't have it.

It would be pretty handy to have in the boot for those odd occasions when I need to borrow a trailer.

I can take pics/measurements if that helps?

Have you checked in the left hand side boot panel in a little leather bag???? I found one there the other day. Down side, no electric hook up though which is pointless, what can you tow without an electric hook up???? a plough across a field???

I bought a Jag with exactly the same thing you describe - hidden wiring & the "hole" for the towbar bit behind a plastic panel under the rear bumper. The Jag dealer wanted a silly figure as "you can't buy the towbar bit" so after a bit of poking around I found it was a Witter one. A caravan dealer was very helpful & ordered me the one to fit - still cost over £100 though.

Cheers lads, I've scoured the boot definitely not there!

I guess a visit to a caravan dealer might help then?

If its factory fitted it will be a Westfalia bar like mine, check out their site or drop them a line, they may just be able to supply the 'ball' section

ebay will prob be the cheapest bet as they are the most expensive part of a tow bar kit

My thoughts:
The tow hitch is very unlikely to be of Audi origin/manufacture. Somewhere on the beam assembly behind the bumper will be a manufacturers plate- and the manufacturer may be able to help you. My BMW has an 'Oris' (now 'Bosal') tow bar, and when I rang them they were able to supply spare keys etc etc.
It's an '02' car. There will be a damaged one at a dismantlers somewhere which could be liberated of it's tow hitch.
Finally, things like this can be bought used cheaply on eBay. Buy the whole thing if you have to, it'll probably still be cheaper than the new detachable part- and you can delight in the fact that the hard work has already been done (electrics).

Ok, I've been and had another look. It's exactly the same type as this one on eBay
