No idea if this is commonly known or not, but assuming it isn't, I just found a great website with a bunch of unmarked police cars photographed.

Very good for knowing what you need to be careful of on our highways and byeways smile

How many car/numberplate combinations are you ever going to recall in the split second it takes to figure out if you're being followed by a mystery car? At any given place in the country?

I can't remember what I had for tea 2 nights ago.

  • actually I just did, it was chicken casserole with mash. God knows what was on the telly though...

yes

Generally I find unmarked BiB easy to spot. They're the well driven cars with the extra mirrors and aerials.

Exactly.

With decent observation they're not that hard to pick out, even the 'proper' unmarked cars & bikes from regional/serious/drug units pop out sometimes.

That said, you don't spot the good surveillance units so who knows how many are out there......

Now, where's me tinfoil hat?

Perhaps I should qualify my comment. The ones who are likely to take an interest in me are easy to spot.

Good find. I shall be taking particular interest in any silver or black Audis or Vauxhalls I see from now on.

So basically, watch out for any Ford, Vauxhall or Audi vehicles in resale colours?

Even easier in Yorkshire, they're all registered at the same depot so they are all YJ numberplates hehe

I used to be an expert at spotting unmarked police cars when I was a lad. They were all Sierras with Belfast registrations and bulletproof glass.

I noticed there aren't any VW R32s in that line up.

Must have smashed them all.

If that pulled you over, you'd ask to buy it!

There are unmarked police cars where I work which don't have any of that sort of thing. No extra mirror, no extra aerial or GPS 'nipple' on the roof either. They don't have a police radio inside so they don't need to extra aerial as a giveaway. You'd probably not realise it had officers in it until you saw the whites of their shirts!

Generally if you are perceptive and the light is good, you can hope to spot unmarked cars. When it's dark, or you're on the mway doing over a ton, I wouldn't bank on it!
