Just had a funny encounter at a petrol station...

I'm accustomed now at places like petrol stations to people saying 'nice car' and 'is it a real one?', 'did you put that body kit on yourself' etc. But a guy today really threw me. He was waiting for a pump in his car, and as I approached my car he said the usual 'nice car', but then said 'I knew it was you when you were queuing, the car really suits you'.

At this point I said the usual thanks and drove off (giving it some beans obviouslybiggrin), but driving home I really wondered what he meant, and how can a car suit somebody. Now I drive a Clio V6, which gets loads of head turns etc, but what makes me a typical owner? I'm 30, look a bit younger, had just finished playing football so just had a hoodie and some jeans on. Does this mean people think it's some sort of chavvy car? Or that I have good taste or what?

Anyone else had a comment along those lines?

Or even do you think your car 'suits' you/your style or anything to do with you?

Personally I think to those who know what it is probably think good taste, but do randomers think differently? Or do they have no opinion?

Yup, although it is sort of the opposite of my personality. It's fairly conspicuous and loud, I am neither of those things. It's very 'me' though in a weird way... smile

The Clio v6 is the only Clio I like. Awesome cars IMO. They do however have a chav/boy racer mage in the eyes of some older people (not me) .

Yes some of the older teachers at work say that, but this guy was about similar age and said in a sort of appreciative way. Just got me thinking...

BMW 750IL - I'm nether monied, middle aged or a drug dealer. Just a hard done by full time Uni student, working 14 hours a week.

I can be frequently seen visiting ASDA wearing a hoody. It's safe to say the car doesn't really suit me. biggrin

I'm about your age and couldn't imagine telling another bloke that his car really suits him. It's a bit gay.

I think "yes" in my case.

Scooby Legacy - sort of a Swiss Army knife of capabilities and I'm a self-confessed lover of all things techy, gadgety, and geeky. But I don't like to be showy and have no interest in clothes (apart from them covering me and that they have lots of pockets, last a long time and are comfy).

I will spend a fortune on a single gadget for a specific occasion just so I've got the right tool - the Legacy is like that. It's as good as other Estate cars until it snows when it sort of vindicates my choice of car.

It's probably more the case of out of all the people he could see queueing to pay, or coming back to their cars, you instantly looked like the sort of person that would be in the (lovely) V6. So it could all be relative to the other clientèle that were around at the time.

I've done it myself, seen a car of interest, not necessarily a nice car, just one that might be a bit different, and then matched the owner to the car before they've gone back to it.

My daily hack is dull and boring...probably suits me to a tee biggrin
