I've been trying to decide for a while and haven't been able to to here's the situation.

Currently I run a 2005 4.2s XKR - I've had it 2 years nearly and I still love it. However, due to a change in marital circumstances it is looking increasingly likely that I will have to do long round trips to see/collect my children and, quite frankly, the rear seats are not big enough for even an 8 and a 6 year old over that distance.

So the question is do I keep the XKR and suplement with a shed type car or swap for something like an S8 that has the power and the room and just run that? I like driving and just can't see myself doing 400 miles in an Astra! However, I love the XKR. I change my mind daily however the time to decide is quickly approaching.

And no I can't afford to run the XKR and something like an S8.

So, which side of the fence would you jump?

Cheers

How about sell the XKR, buy a cheap daily driver and then get something really special for weekends? Elise, Caterham, etc.

S8

Faster, roomier, comfier and handles very well. Quattro and winters means they can go anywhere on snow. Other than petrol they're not hugely expensive to run and don't really go wrong. Not in the last 2.5 years anyway. smile

Something like an old MG ZT dag-dag should do the job. You can get ZT's for shed money and they are a good drive with a good diesel if you want frugal, so it doesn't have to be soul destroying!

Plus importantly any shed will make the Jag seem a bit more special smile

Why do they both have to sit in the back?

The Jag is a nice toy if your circumstances dictate but I suspect an S8 will be more than suitable for giving you the enjoyment you need and giving you the space you need to seat your kids. Lucky buggers, they'll be travelling in the lap of luxury - very quickly!

Which generation of S8 are you looking at?

That one at 19,000 looks nice. Don't be tempted by the B&O, it's good but not that good.In fact 19 looks a bit of a steal!

I was just a bit worried about the ceramic brakes. XKR has Brembo's and I know how expensive those discs are to replace!!

Mine doesn't have them but I've just had discs and brakes all round for £600, a pleasant surprise after double that for my RS6. Hmm If the ceramic brakes go can you replace the lot with standard Bs and Ds?..I don't know.

This is like the Astra problem though isn't it. I'd keep the Jag and buy a shed rather than lose the XKR

You could always go down the XJR route?

Or maybe (not sure on budget) but an early XFR?
