Trying to get confidence back and some bint.......
Discussion
Undoes all my hard work of the last three weeks.
Still recovering from my accident and I find it really hard to be in a car right now and I'm super nervous, leaving really big gaps between cars etc.
On my way to hospital this morning for physio when some stupid bint waits to pull out across the road into my lane. She waits for a car to pass going the other way to me, and without looking pulls out right in front of me, no word of a lie, less than 10ft. I stand on the anchors and use the horn to try and warn her I am there. She totally ignores it and completes the manouevre, forcing me on the pavement.
I have nowhere to pull over so I follow her to the hospital. Not once did she even acknowledge what she did, just carried on as if nothing happened.
I get to the hospital and sit in the car park for 5 minutes just composing myself.
Seriously, some people should not be allowed on the roads and I'm starting to think I'll join them as its put me back again and I'm not looking forward to a 45 minute commute home this evening.
RANT OVER, apologies for lack of swearing etc, 1/10

It took me ages to get my confidence back after I had my car crash - maybe more than a year. I'd had a head-on with a chap on the wrong side of the road and if someone overtook coming the other way I'd just stop regardless of how many hundreds of metres of safe space there was. I probably shouldn't have gone back to driving without some sort of company in the car to make sure I wasn't over-reacting all the time, but I desperately wanted my independance back as soon as I'd recovered a bit.
Some sort of advanced training might help - it certainly helped with my confidence on bikes to go out with Police riders, and it hugely improved my observation skills. I'm much safer, much happier yet not much slower as a result.
It doesn't stop other people trying to randomly kill you, but you'll be expecting them to try to kill you which helps a lot. I've not done an emergency stop for years, except for practice.

Sorry to hear about your accident, and fair play in not letting it put you off and getting back driving again. The one piece of advice I would give you is that you'll never win against the morons. Just try to anticipate and avoid them as best is possible, and don't let them get to you, however difficult that might be
I've got to the point now where I only ever use the horn or flash to prevent something happening e.g. to warn someone who is rolling back in front of me in traffic. I've just given up with ranting at people after the event, because it never produces a beneficial result in any way and only increases stress-levels IMO
Some members on here may not agree with this approach, but it generally works for me

Sorry to hear that.
As mentioned above, is there any other experienced drivers who can accompany you for a few drives to help build your confidence. It takes time.
I would have suggested temporary P plates but tbh, the way people seem to treat P plated cars around here it's almost more bother.
Best of luck getting back into it.
