Am I being rose-tinted about this?

This is my father's old 944 that he sold a few years ago prior to his 928. It was beginning to rust and would be too much work to keep it as his daily drive. Always missed it, and promised myself I'd bring it back if it came up anywhere.
But, if it were you, would you bother?
I wanna bring it back, blast it, patch it, strip it out, and use it as a fast road/road rally car in a few years' time.
Cheers

Nice video, seems genuine.
If you want the car, and you're prepared for the work (and it could be a LOT of work) then go for it. It's (I would imagine) not going to cost a whole bunch to buy, so the absolute worst thing that could happen is you get it, realise it's unsaveable, then have to recoup your money from breaking it for spares.
But if you want a project, and it's got emotional attachment ... go for it ! We've all sold cars we wish we hadn't, not many of us get the chance to have a second time around.

someone on PH is doing it with his fathers old car, but returning it to factory spec I believe.

My heart just missed a beat.
I tripped up over this knackered TVR Tuscan V6 on fleabay.
Then I realised that it is my Dad's old car.
He bought it in component form new from the TVR factory in 1970 or 71 and completed the build himself.
He sold it after a year or two, but always commented on what a great car it was.

And here is what it looked like when Dad had it...

Dad died ten years ago, but I am quite a sentimental old fool. You can all guess what I am thinking...
