Baby seat for small car

So picture the scene - new baby about to be born, wife in hospital, just time to test fit the baby seat in the car. BUGGER, seat belt is too short!!! Luckily our other one fits on a base and this fits.
So, drive to hospital and tell my wife, after admiring my newborn son,(now I know who gets my spanners when I go anyway), that I've come to pick her up in the Aston. No problem she says. I nonchalently ask her if she has regained some of her flexibility. Luckily she had! We get to the car for her to discover that she has to sit behind me. Little fella in front seat - no airbag and the only seat it would fit in- daughter behind him. Me with nose against screen and only just able to operate brake/clutch/accelerator safely - don't panic, we all got home safely. Wife climbs into back, legs akimbo, well she was like that 12 hours previously so I didn't see the problem, only to find out she suffers from claustrophobia! Fair-dos, she stayed in the back doing a good impression of a contortionist.
So do any of you know of a really short baby seat or have experience of a seat that fits a smaller car etc. or even better, a DB7?
Looking forward to the wisdom. Did think of divorce/ seperation but on balance I need somewhere to park the car.
