Hi All,
just as the title says, put £10 into my diesel Golf (2002 model), have now filled up the tank a few times as well as changing the fuel filter and adding Redex, the engine never chugged or spluttered but the economy is down from 50mpg to 43mpg, anything else i can do?
thanks

Be fine the drop in mpg is due to different chemical in the diesel to stop it freezing which reduces mpg and also you will be putting more strain on the engine with heaters on, lights, wippers etc will all reduce mpg.

It doesn't make it go faster or sound better unfortunately.

The big problems with misfueling diesels are because petrol doesn't lubricate as well as diesel. Modern common rail injection systems rely on the diesel to lubricate the fuel system, which petrol can't do, so you end up causing serious wear on the system.

However, a 2002 diesel Golf is probably using unit injectors rather than common rail injection, and unit injectors can survive misfueling as the injectors are lubricated using engine oil rather than fuel. Just keep adding diesel to tank to dilute the petrol in the tank and you should be fine. Change the fuel filter if you want but it's there to remove particulates from the fuel and £10 of petrol should effect that.
