Hey,

I have seen the above at a house nearby, I have spoken to the owner and he is willing to sell. The car needs a little work as has sat around for a few years but runs fine, paint and body are good (being in Australia).

It has a replacement engine of same type and non original seats but everything else looks good- what would one like this be worth in the UK? (Thinking about restoring and shipping back)

any help would be great

James

Here in Ireland you're talking anywhere between 10 - 25k GBP depending on the level it's been restored to. Concours show cars will command even more.

They're not easy to rebuild though as there's so much detail that has to go into them to make them original, and those in the scene are so fanatical about them they'd be calling for your head should you even have an exhaust bracket slightly out of place. It's the small things that you wouldn't even notie that adds to the value.

I've literally just finished a Mark 2 Mexico, so any questions or help needed fire away.

Can I assume being Aussie it's 4 door? That'd have a big impact on the value.

I'm assuming it's two door myself?

A lot in Aus are 4 door. I don't know the numbers but I'd assume more than 2 doors but only because most I've seen have been 4 doors.

Regardless, unless it's one of only about 25 I think that came from Germany (and it sounds too late for that), it differs in many ways to a UK RS, which based on your points above would make it a fair bit less desirable I'd say.

It's big business importing an Australian shell, especially over here. A lot of the cars over here have been built using them. As you say there are some differences, filler cap and such, but nothing that can't be rectified.

How about a bargain at £42,950! 1980, two door, 11k miles, 2 lady owners.

No value in shipping it over to the UK then.

There's value in shipping over nice condition, rust free Aussie 2-dr Escort bodyshells, but not Aussie built 4-dr RS cars.
