I'm still car hunting and one of the cars I've given some thought to is the MK3 Golf VR6. I'd only look to keep it for about two months and then buy a MK5 GT. Fuel consumption isn't a big concern as I don't have to do many miles.

My main concern is selling it once I'm ready to buy my next car. I can't see many people wanting a 2.8 litre Golf. Are they easy to sell on?

I think the biggest factor will be time of year- not many people have spare cash floating around the end of January, If it was me personally I would keep it for four months then shift it on in spring so make sure you get one with long MOT and tax.

If you've got the money I'd go for a Corrado as they're rarer, faster, better handling & should be easier to shift once you're dont with it

I'd say get the corrado or a mk4 v6 4motion for the winter. The v6 4mo has a more powerfull engine and 4wd.

Thanks for the replies, to be honest, I'm not a fan of the Corrado's looks. I've seen a few MK4 V6 4MOs, they do look good, especially in comparison to the MK3 VR6.

Good point about selling in January, I guess it will also make buying a car easier though.

Lovely cars to drive. Not as heavy on fuel as you might think.

What does it matter if you like the looks or not, you're only keeping for a couple of months anyway.

Actually, whether it's a better car or not is also neither here nor there as it's very short term.

Personally, I'd buy something dirt cheap (an old jap car for example), hope it lasts 2 months and write off the purchase price if it goes bang. If it doesn't, you should get your money back but the most you'll lose is the purchase price. Buying something "specialist" like a VR6 could easy result (more likely I reckon than some old jap car) in bills but you will "have" to pay out to get your money back as the car would be worthless broken anyway. It will also be harder to sell on as potential buyers will wonder why you kept a "nice" car for such a short period (and they won't believe any stopgap story, they'll just assume it's a pup).

Depends how much you want to spend.

If you buy a sub £1k Golf VR6 then it is likely that you will have 1) people wanting to buy the whole car 2) people who want to buy it as a donor car to make their mk1/2 golf or other VW a VR6.

If you buy a more expensive one and sell via a specialist site like the Vr6 owners club, the golf GTI forum or Edition 38 you shouldn't have an issue getting rid.

It's definitely a car worth trying for a few weeks!
