Accidentally clipped a van coming the other way on a tight corner and smashed the winger mirror, no further damage. I phoned insurance company and they said to get estimate from their approved bodyshop for repair.

How much do you think for an electric folding mirror on an Audi Q5?

am saying 1200. Usual overpriced Audi crap, although when you start working on aircraft engines car bits all seem cheap!!!

maybe do it yourself and save your premium / excess?

Wouldn't be very confident painting them and apparently you need to somehow use a laptop to let the car know it has folding mirrors.

Quote is £1,050 but as it's so far above insurance excess it's a bit acedemic and will get it done.

That's just mental, your insurance will now go up too for a few years, I'd go the ebay route! & get it painted for £50

You could buy a pretty tidy car with that sort of money

Merc SL auto dimming wing (door) mirrors. The glass (just the glass) was something like £450 last time I looked.

Yeah, rediculous price. You could easily make an electric folding mirror for way less than that using raw materials and googling the appropriate manufacturing techniques.

Check the price for the complete unit - it was cheaper for me to buy a complete mirror than to replace the glass. Utterly and completely mad!

I have customers complain when the mirror glass costs £25.

Door mirrors are a maximum of £150, colour coded and everything!

I'm going to print this thread and show them next time they complain! hehe

Well you did choose a car with ludicrously complicated wing mirrors, what did you expect when you needed to replace one? A new mirror for my car is 29 quid and is held on by two screws. hehe

I honestly think you should write to "Quest" or "The Discovery Channel", you've just come across a great idea for a series there.
