Who buys these new???
Discussion
Sometimes looking around at cars on the road I cannot help but notice that they are some diabolical heaps driving around.
I'm not just talking about old bangers either (as there are some quite nice ones). I mean new(ish) models.
Who for example walks into a Renault dealership and thinks 'Hmmmm I really like the look of that *insert s
t car name here* I'll buy that new.'
I know we all have different tastes but I think we can all agree where some cars are just awful.
So what is the draw? I mean some of them aren't even cheap. Is the the warranty? Reliability? The fact that someone is thinking of the the kids of the future needing a cheap second hand banger to buy?

Ssanyong Rodius - from £15995 new, OK you get a new car but if you need 7 seats then for 16 grand you could get a very decent second hand VW, Ford, Toyota etc people carrier, WHY would you want to drive something so hideous!
Also, and cars that are s
t brown, if you're buying a shed (either a car or somewhere to keep the lawnmower) then you have to put up with the colour but when you go to the dealer and have a choice of red, green, blue, grey (???) why would you pick a rubbish colour?
In fact, why do manufacturers make cars in s
t brown in the first place?
So in answer to the original question, it can only be that some people have absolutely no taste and no interest in cars apart from getting them from A to B.

I've never really understood why anyone buys any car new, but I'm extremely glad that they do.
Keeping up with the Joneses I'd wager. An old couple who live near me bought a new Hyundai box thing because they wanted a 62' plate, they traded in an old S Type to get it too.

+1, otherwise there wouldn't be the thriving second-hand market that kept me employed at BCA for many years.
Surprisingly perhaps, the vast majority of the people who worked there, including the drivers, had the A to B view of cars, as you could tell from the staff parking areas.
What's worse is that someone designed this s
t in the first place, and then someone further up the chain approved it.
Prime example (and I'm NOT a French car basher) - someone at Pug smoked a s
tload of crack and penned the design for the front wing and wheelarch on the 3008 (I've chosen this as it actually offends my eye so much). When he'd come down from his high he went "Zut alors! Zis ees ok!" and took it to management, who when they had finished mainlining heroin and snorting speedballs (or whatever) said "Mais oui! This looks formidable! Really belle!" and then they manufactured it. What were they thinking - did nobody stop and say "Hey - look, stop! It looks f
king hideous"?
I have no idea what's going on.
I mean really - LOOK AT IT!

I think it’s a lot to do with things like reliability, my dad bought a Matrix, bloody ugly mundane thing, he isn’t short of cash he just doesn’t given too hoots about what a car looks like he just wants it to be hassle free and financially worthwhile and Hyundai were offering 7 years warranty at the time.

Quite a few people. They represent great value for money, have a 4 year 100k warranty, 4 years free servicing and you get a great spec for your money.
t car name here* I'll buy that new.'Other people buy them 1/2/3/4/5/6/7 years old. Different strokes for different folks.

The Ssanyong buyer isn't walking into the dealer with £16000 cash though, which they could be spending elsewhere. They've got a minimal deposit, and a monthly budget, and they are attracted by the of the packages and warrenties that the advertising suggests the new option come with .... Either that, or they are a company buyer who has £16000 to spend, and wants something more than the base model aspirational lifestyle brand which everyone else chooses, and appreciates that the alternative brand choice delivers practicality and space that simply isn't available from "normal" brands. Also, and cars that are s

As for colours ... Everyone is different. As for brown ... what about these:

Don't forget there's also a lot of Motability customers putting new cars on our roads every day of every week of every year. A lot of these people have as much interest in cars as we do about cross-stitching, hence why you see some oddballs out and about on new plates; Renault Clio estates, Modus, Citroen C3 Picasso, the entire Hyundai range... you get the idea
