It seems they're desperate, so I give in - from now, for 7 days, I'm not going to apply the extra attention to the road that ensured 4 people are still alive who - frankly - shouldn't be

Cyclist 1&2
I was driving into a local retail park last Mon evening - it's a one way system with a single-lane entrance and exit. Turning into the entrance I come face-to-face with 2 berks who are cycling down the middle of the road, in the dark, no lights, no reflectors, no helmets, wrong way in a one-way... One of them, apparently surprised that cars exist, falls-off his bike in surprise which meant I really did have to stop, because getting brains off your tyres is grubby work...

Moped Rider 3
Tuesday evening now - I'm pulling away from the kerb and I've checked and double-checked - it's dark, again, but I'm sure there's no traffic around, no pedestrians and so I pull-out and - what the fk did I just miss by inches!!!

Ah that was idiot No3 on his moped with no lights on and he's giving ME the finger...

Cyclist 4
Weds night - it's dark and rainy and I'm approaching a pelican crossing (a dying breed those!). Cars are parked close on either side so there's no much visibility on the pavement but there's enough to see there's no pedestrians around.

As I'm about 10ft away I get a 'wtf' moment because yes - there he is - Cyclist No4, riding on the pavement, no lights, no reflectors, no safety gear and he's going at a fair-old-rate and yes, he's cycling straight out onto the crossing!!

I'm on the brakes bigtime now and he's looking at me like I'm the one who's breaking several traffic laws...

Three days in a row, so OK, I give up - you all win - from today until next Weds I'm paying less attention to you stupidity.

If you all continue riding like morons, putting your safety into the hands of others, I won't be the one who saves you

The jetwash will get your brains out of the tyre tread - game on.

2/10 - Not enough fks.

On a separate note, I doubt you'd sleep well if you did actually kill someone, blithering moron or not, and you could have done something about it. I also imagine that should you be unlucky enough to kill someone in the next seven days that the boys in blue would thank you kindly for a written admission of DWDC&A.

But if he does now have an accident in which a cyclist or mopedist dies, this will not look good. wink

Toatally get where you are coming from and if anybody on here thinks that you are actually going to kill one of these idiots should not be on here.
But anyway, what I get from reading your post is just what I have been saying for ages,a lot of people are so spineless and up their own arses that, like you say they look on such incidents like they are YOUR fault although you have used your skill and attention to avoid injuring them.

Reminds me of when I was a lorry driver, when not one day would pass without me saving some car driver's skin (or sheet metal), then get back to PH to read how terrible lorry driver's are.

Welcome to the world that many of us live in, OP. Sorry you're finding it so hard.

Clearing the streets of cyclists and mopedists? Do you have a Justgiving page where I can send some monetary support OP?

Careful. PH is full of militant cyclists these days. You'll find that out shortly......

I read somewheres that if you carry a bike on a rack cyclists give you more room and are more careful around you. Respek init.

I think we should ask Chris(t) Harris what he thinks. yeslick

Ohh, Chris(t) Harris. I'd like to see him on a bike all lycra'd up and sweaty. Ohhh.

In all those situations you mentioned it seemed like they was to blame. If they fall off/see their life flash before their eyes then all the better, hopefully that will teach them not to do it again.

I ride a scooter in London.

Funnily enough we don't appear out of nowhere, it is just poor observational skills by yourself.

Apologies OP - I didn't see he had no lights on.

Similar thing happened to me, i was coming to a stop behind some traffic and unbeknownst to me there was a cyclist pull out of a side road on my left just behind me as i went past the road, no lights on on a fast road bike. As i was coming to a stop he zipped up the left of me and went between me and the car infront, i had to stand on the brakes just to avoid hitting him...

I can't have been doing more than around 5mph at this point but it would have still knocked him off his bike.

As a cyclist I simply don't understand the stupidity of fellow cyclists that don't put on lights or at least any kind of reflective gear. I live near a University and it's simply horrifying the lack of common sense on display on the roads around here at night... students in dark clothes, on f@cked old bikes, with not a single light or reflector. It's just a matter of time.

I was waiting for these lights the other day http://goo.gl/maps/NT7eW at night.

Lights went green and the car in front stalled smash

Then, a cyclist right from the road on the right! Had the person in front not stalled, I'm sure they'd have run them over.

Personally I'd go for the cyclist on the crossing.

OP. You should change your name to 405bandwagon.

Little rants against cyclists are all the rage at the moment.

Being a cyclist myself I totally agree with you OP, If i am out and its dark, i make sure i look like a fking Christmas tree on acid, I mostly obey the road laws (well as much as i would in a car) and where ever possible I try and make sure i don't get killed, often this does mean having to avoid people in cars who apparently cant see a bright orange, flashing light house cycling down the road, but still i would rather think of them as s and stay alive, but thats my choice.

I am still suffering the affects of being knocked off at speed by a in a focus last year in broad daylight, who drove off and left me in a heap on the floor, but that another story......
