I know I deserve it, driving a 9 year old petrol pug 307, but just got back into car & it won't start. Turn key battery light goes out, but not a dicky bird from starter or engine. So is it going to be, the battery, the starter or the immobiliser?

Can you beat the breakdown service to diagnosis?

If you've driven it already today, get the wheel brace out and (carefully) tap both battery connections. Give them a fair whack. Try key. Report back.

Try wipers, if they are going slow it'll be the battery is flattish
If verything else electrical is ok, the starter motor might be stuck, rock car back and forward in gear to free it or tap the motor with a hammer (gently) and try again.

Check the fuse box.

Also is there a kill switch, if so where is it, could you have inadvertently pushed it?

I say immobiliser, do the radio/lights work?

how dull are the instrument lights?

if it was flattish battery you would expect starter clicking.

Immobiliser.

Get out, lock it, unlock it, get in, drive away.

Sounds like a typical IT solution... Switch it off, and switch it back on again.

It's Frenceh therefore simultaneous failure of immobiliser, batter and starter. Triggered by something else totally unrelated. That's also failed.
